I went from a M3 to a 911 and never looked back; better MPG than a m3, service was even cheaper an such a nice drive. Used daily either is not a problem; so comfy and quiet when you are cruising and power and sound there when you do want to give it some.

what? its only as fast as you drive it! Dont use too much throttle and it will only be as bad on fuel as a highly tuned straight 6!

I wasn't talking about the fact that its 700bhp. Its LHD and its a Corvette. I'm not sure just how reliable it would be and servicing it would be a pain in the arse.

More reliable than a porsche thats for sure. Yank tanks are bulletproof in the engine department. I know somone over there who has a 1200bhp twin turbo vette thats been his daily driver for 5 years now and all he does is change the oil, filter and plugs once every 6 months.
LHD will take some getting used to but 700bhp an a great handling chassic cannot be ignored lol.

Yeah Id probably agree that the Corvette LS series of engines are more reliable than Porsche engines.........as for everything else then I'm not sure!?
Would I have a Corvette over a Porsche.......I don't think Id have either to be honest but then thats just my opinion!

Overall for everyday use though, it's the 911 all day.

I do agree that the C2 is a bit girly, considering paying a bit more and going for a C4S, looks much better. The guy wants cash on top of my M3 which I'm not prepared to do for a 1999 C2 so will be looking elsewhere now. Not really up for a 5 series though, and the NSX was boring when I drove one, sounds nice but didn't like the steering feel or the pace of it. Corvette would be cool if I lived in America and had a chest wig

Sell the m3, And buy a e39 M5! Will earn you self a few £0000 in the process and still get a bruiser to knock about in whilst saving your pennies

Decided to go for a 997 S, just need to offload my M3 now and raise a little extra funds. Having looked at a few cars the 997 is league above anything else for what I want, love it!

Good plan. The 997's look so much better, although you will lose a lot more money on them.
Not fancy a 993? Virtually depreciation proof.

When I was looking into 911's Nik i bought 911 world magazine and they mentioned problems with the engines on the early model 996's.Although that one you posted is a lot of car for the money! I'd get a decent warrenty from Porsche also which is around £1000.I worked in the motor trade for a bit and spoke to a few Porsche technitions and the new models are pretty unrealiable...I was shocked to hear that!

Experts I have spoken to predict about a £2500 loss per year on the 997, I can stomach that. Cole the Porsche garage moved to Burgess Hill sometime ago now, been looking at specialist garages (one in Chichester etc). I am tinkering with a 996 Turbo late model too as I have been told that is probably the best late-ish 911 to buy in terms of depreciation i.e it might not drop anything in 3-5 years.
First thing is to flog the M3 but I am fairly sure I'll go for a Carrera 2 or 4S 997. Looks gorgeous!

if you're worried about deprication... it has to be a basalt black 993 turbo.
Time-less shape

As i said earlier a 993 is where i would put my money, but to be honest, if you're wanting to use it every day, you'll want a fairly low milage one to begin with, and they can cost quite a bit.

Not hugely worried but obviously losing as little as possible would be nice, 997 just offers reasonable losses and everyday practicality. 993t looks great though must admit, shame I can't buy one of them for the weekend

I'm talking about a low mileage 2005 car with a good spec, they won't dip below the 30k mark for a fair while yet and can be picked up for 34-36k.

Ya, depreciation isnt really a killer if you only keep the car for a year or two at most.
