As AK said, the P1 is just a watered down Type R with a bigger price tag!

Wouldn't have a P1 they seem too overpriced for nothing extra, 22B yes P1 no

Type r is seeming the best so far. RA doesnt have electric windows, does the R?

What things best to look out for?
What year is best? looking at the link AK give id say 1998 or 1999 would a budget of 6k max get a good example with a few subtle mods?

if your wanting creature comforts dont got for an RA unless its been spec'd up from factory.

6k for a 98/99 TypeR wont get you a pristine car. 6k will get you a better example if you just opt for a 'normal' STi 4dr.

Mine was 5k (V4 1997) - and it has a few niggles.

We paid 13.5k for the black one about 4years ago. It was immaculate.

i think out niggles may differ

Best bet is to see what out there.... test drive a 2dr and 4dr to see what you like.

The 2dr (with DCCD) is very tail happy with the difs open..... very RWD like. Never driven a 4dr STI (DCCD) to compare but i've heard the 2dr is more snappy.

2.5 = really torquey

as said, a 2.5 sti block with a md321 + mangement, well 400bhp is an easy target.

iv been in a bugeye with a forged 2L + md321 + all hell breaks loose when it comes on boost - and that was in 4th gear! would be V fun in a lighter classic

for a non stressed road car .... yes....

If your wanting a free reving drag/track beast the 2.0 (2.1/2.2) might be a better option

see ive been looking at scoobs and for some reason you can now pick up the 2002+ facelift sti's for £7000 upwards. thats not alot more than the old classics for alot more car with alot less miles, why arn't the newer ones fetching the money?
infact i saw the last facelight model 2.5 sti for £8500!
