If you are wanting a cheapo trackcar.... that will be cheap to keep on the track... It MUST be light and small. Bigger cars will go through tyres and brakes much quicker. Never mind the general increase in price for buying decent suspension for an Impreza (for example)

Not a cheap 1k track car

Ahh well it didnt say 1K in his post

£1k got to be a VTS as someone else mentioned. I hate french crap but they are rapid little hot hatches.

describe cheap?

I would buy an MK indy (or similar) running a sensible engine - ie one for which parts were easily available and were easy to fix when things go wrong.

Probably a car engine rather than bike and something like a (C)20XE or Duratec

There was a very nice xe engine'd one for sale for £5500 on PH the other week

Light and french is the way forward IMO:

AX GT, GTi'd AX, 205 GTi, 106 XSi/GTi, Saxo VTR/VTS.

205 gti
some sort of civic but not looked at prices yet

scoobies etc wont be cheap to run as AK stated

i've looked at 205's ak and they seem to be more than I thought to buy

Doug had to sell the XR2I before going to oz
stripped it of its parts first though

I always say this, but 106 XSi/Rallye 16v. Because it's lighter they are easily quicker than a VTS/GTi. And I know someone with a mint 1.9 GTi and on roads we both know well, we were even on the bends and I was easily quicker on the straights!

hmm french.......
id never own a french car having spent a few years spannering they are the worse cars in the world to work on. so you would soon fall out of love with it when something brakes and you have to try and fix it while on a trackday.
how about an almeria gti or something along those lines?
200sx?

almera weighs 1150kg and only has 140bhp

id be 10x better off with a 205 or 106 that has similar power with a few breathing mods and weighs 250kg+ less

sure they are 150bhp?
and dont forget there is more to take out of some cars than others, french cars are already made with the thinest and cheapest every so not much more weight to take out.
im biased anyhow as i just really hate french cars, noone could ever conince me others wise and the amount of blood they have drawn from me! ive still a scar on my arm from changing a 106gti clutch cable!

although i said i hate french cars if you insist what about the old clio 1.8 16v pretty light about 135bhp and wide archers so dead easy to lower for the track without any rubbing problems.
