Faz, oh my word, why??? Have a real hard think about it, the answers are plentyfull.
Druken thats the sketch I was on about.
I remember everyone saying the Corsa C was rubbish.......
Then everyone said the Astra mk4 looked rubbish
Then the Mk5
Then the Corsa D
Everyone dislikes them, then somehow, everyone likes them. Strange that

Not horrendous - bit samey I suppose though. Maybe 3 door will look better - it certainly does on the MK5.

It looks ok for a first released shots. I fully expect VXR version to be lovely.
There is no way that would be a base model, looks like it would be a pretty high spec one.
Plus not every idiot wants to pay £20k + for an Astra so they release pics of the ones that will sell the most I'd imagine.

I never said you did, I wasn't meaning you. Was just saying that the mid range models will be the biggest sellers. Hence getting them pictures out there first.
I'm sure there are some idiots who have paid over £20k for one anyway though.

I really like it. Ok, so it is a bit similar to all the other cars in its class, but its going to be.
I'd have one, just not brand new

So your saying everyone who bought a brand new astra VXR is an idiot........
Guess its horses for courses, i know complete muppets who have spent £90+k on a new Aston Martin which essentially does the same thing...
What idiots...
PS, glad we didn't spend anything like that on our astra though.
Does that mean anyone who has bought a brand new Golf GTi, or a brand new Focus ST etc are also idiots.... I mean its only a few grand either side of £20k......

Noticing a pattern emerge - first shots of any new Vauxhall release are slated then people get used to them on the road and suddenly they like them 6 months down the line.
It looks alright to me.

It could look shit and still sell, purely on the basis it is a vauxhall astra. That is a fact.

No, my comment was aimed at ollie who was saying why release pics of mid range/base model. I just meant that most people will only be buying those models and not the £20k vxr. Maybe I worded it wrong but that was my point.
Personally I think it looks find and I'm sure/hope it is a big seller.

Uninspiring, non ground breaking or contrversial. Obv vaux are playing it safe with this one and keeping it bland so it will still sell to the masses.
Its not an ugly car, it just doesnt stand out at all. A clever move by vaux, id like to see the new VXR though.

Scirocco anyone?

Bearing in mind the Scirocco's a three door, they're quite similar. Particularly the swage line and the shape of the roof. Rear lights look quite samey too. Even the front bumper comes up in the middle underneath the headlights, but that's probably a coincodence.
Seems as if all the motor companies come together these days and decide on the style of car they're all going to release next.

Quite a bit of new car styling is dictated by safety standards for pedestrians etc. I would imagine. Hence certain parts looking similar

If that was the case Nissan Micras would look like Ferraris. And every other new car coming out.
I know what you're saying, but I wouldn't have thought safety rules would dictate the styling to the extent that it would make cars look that similair.

Thats why quite a few cars have things like the wing mirrors mounted that little bit further back with a small window in front of it. I think the crash safety regs dictate things a lot more than people think. I dont know the full extent, I just think its got to be part of the reason along with not many manufacturers will want to go wild and risk losing sales when they know can play it safe and bland and keep selling cars.

I think it looks good as it is, its a family 5 door hatchback. It looks perfectly fine, I'm sure the VXR could be a real looker depending on how they approach the styling.
