i know someone who heated them, made the rear end all twitchy and it skipped out around a bend and ended up in a field..
i also know someone who chopped them, flung up snapped the rear brake line, jammed (between the tyre and inner arch, locked up the back wheel and he spun out..
its just not worth it..

Sorry, but why would you want to do this?it will just increase the chances of the springs snapping under pressure, not something you want really.

Buy new ones anyway, unless you want more damage when the springs snap at 50mph.

How do you plan on compressing the springs once they are heated up?

I'll look forward to a thread in a few weeks saying how you had to go to hospital with a clamp lodged in your forehead.

i dont care what your friends have done, ive done it..
i did it on my old escorts back in the day, and i can say i wouldnt do it again, there just so bouncy and unpredictable there just not worth it, just change them for proper rear springs like i keep saying, and like others on here once you have the cash..
