Thats very good goin for a standard engine, claires CTR made 212bhp with just a CAT back magnex. These engines seem to do pretty well with just simple breathing mods.

I'm sure the heads are done by hand from the factory or is that the b16b?

early b16b's were hand polished, later models werent. unsure about dc2's!

today i visited falkland performance centre (over 3 hours round trip, just to try and get some truth from this ). falkland use a maha 2wd rolling road which i'm told is german made and used by audi vw mercedes etc for standard figures. it was also calibrated last in february.

so to recap, yesterday on a dastek rolling road it made 246.5bhp @ fly, 205.7bhp @ wheels. today on a maha rolling road it made 228.8bhp @ fly and 181.5bhp @ wheels.

now the wheel/fly figures differ in ratio to each other on both runs, but theres a reason for this, dastek measures the power at the wheels then uses a calculation to correct it to flywheel power, the maha rollers actually measure the drag on the run down, so this shows the difference and jump between both graphs wheel to flywheel power. i'm not sure which is the most accurate, but it doesnt matter really as its the power at wheels i'm interested in.

if we take the flywheel power out of the discussion and concentrate on wheel power it'll be alot easier to discuss as drag isn't considered.

now one rolling road made 205bhp @ wheels and the other 181bhp @ wheels. i am more inclined to believe the 181bhp figure as its more realistic, but after talking to both dyno operators, both insist theres are calibrated, also regularly checked with the same standard cars. now i've ran cars on both these rollers before, and watched other cars too at rr days, and nobody ever seems to get way out figures (like 20bhp difference at fly like mine). i also ran my ek9 on both rollers, firstly at dashfixer (246 figure), and it made 210bhp, i ran it a few months later at falkland (228 figure) and it made 205bhp. 5 bhp a difference on different dynos months later, acceptable in my eyes!

now. if you believe both dyno operators, and my own experience, both dynos are accurate, but this leaves me with 2 very different figures. dashfixer ran the car in 4th gear. this is the same gear on the same dyno my dc5 was ran, and it made 219bhp only a few months back, so i see no issue with that. now falkland said "what, 4th gear, what the hell". they always run a 6 speed car in 5th, a 5 speed car in 4th etc. its all to do with getting a 1:1 ratio apparently. i have an email they were sent from maha explaining it, and it makes sense. when i arrived i asked them to run the car in 4th, just like yesterday, but due to the way the dyno works, load on the dyno etc, it was for having none of it and the revs just flew round, hence the 5th gear run. now falkland reckon the gears make no difference to the final output (which conflicts with this 1:1 ratio), run it in 3rd it'll be 228 or thereabouts, run it in 4th it'll be 228 or thereabouts and so on. speaking to the dashfixer operator with the dastek dyno, they reckon it does make a big difference, and it'll yield a better result in 4th rather than 5th.

conclusion? i'm going back to dashfixer next week, and getting runs in both 4th and 5th. if the car does run around 246 in 4th and a lower figure in 5th, then fair enough, my car is speshal and i'm over the moon. if it runs 228 or thereabouts in 4th and 5th, i can only assume there was an issue with my runs (a mini cup car was in after me, and made 0.1bhp difference from its last run a week before, so its unlikely), and my car is still very good (16bhp up on stock). if it runs 246bhp in both gears, i'm back to square one. and if it just decides to be a total pain it'll read something completely different and i give up!!

all i'm after is confirmation of the correct figure, or thereabouts. either way, both figures are very good, just looking for a base figure to progress from. thanks for reading, hope everything made sense.
