Dont say it then

As said should see around 170 on just a map, stage 2 with zorst, filter and FMIC should see 185ish, 190 is about max for standard turbo. Go hybrid or pd160 turbo and mapped to suit will see around 230-240

Been offered a remapped ecu from a 53 passat, at 160bhp.

Guy wants £80, but I might be able to get it cheaper.

Opinions my trusted friends?

Is it a straight swap, there are millions of variations of the engines.

Do you have vagcom to code it to your car?

I'd just send yours away for £100.

Anyone else have any opinions on this?

My 30 minutes of google research seems to suggest that it's a bit more complex than I was told.

Depending on the immobilizer, 2 or 3, I may need SKU codes from the previous car (passat), and also have my VIN number re-coded into new ECU.

Seems like a lot of messing around...
