Err, Adam IS clever, and before you start sprounting your 17yo gob off, you might want to think about biting the hand that feeds you.......
Adams one of the more relaxed clued up people, so shut ya trap, learn to spell, and be a little more respectfull to those trying to help.
This is not a chav forum and we expect the spoken and written language of this country to be written.
ENGLISH
Dnt b ritin lioke dis as we iz all hatin it n will flame ur azz.
Bo
And another thing, if you want help, and someone gives it, don't flame them. They have helped. Just because you don't agree, does not mean its not right and that your wrong.

for reference purposes....
I ran a 15.8 at Crail in a 1.4 16v (rear seats out and empty boot, rest of trim/car intact)
I had a N/A 2.0 in the 13's but it was a fair bit more powerfull and lighter Should have done quicker times, and prob would have if i'd have done it more than once.

Right point proved and taken on board. Not actually a 17 year old boy racer yob either but cheers for the stereotype.
From reading i know vauxhall delibratly engineered the inlet manifold on 1.6 to be restrictive due to the fact the 2L ecotec was only around 130ish brake (cant rember exact figure) and thus the 1.6 corsa would have been faster than the 2L bigger cars.
But has anyone actually fitted a de-restricted/custom inlet manifold and felt some good results?

I stereotyped you just as you did AK
1.6 was restricted due to it making same peak power as C20XE redtops (150bhp).
Inlet manifolds are a VERY popular modification and can free up to 10-25bhp depending on engine condition, wear, whether you have it mapped to suit, rod bolts (will make power at 7k+rpm).
VERY good mod, easy to fit too.
Recommend keeping the standard airbox if you go this route and putting a panel filter in over a cone filter which will cause the engine to suffer at low revs.
for example.
1.4 16v, running say FULL exhaust (4-2-1 manifold), inlet manifold, panel filter, chip to suit engine mods. 120bhp ish.
Same mods on a 1.6 16v, should see 130-140+bhp. Depends on engine. My missys old engine made 161bhp @ 7519rpm (C16XE), so it depends on the lump.

yes.... 20hp is the norm stated by manufacturers. Take that with a pinch of salt. You'll really need a remap and increased rev limit to realise its full potential.
Hence my comment about you wont get anything worthwhile in budget that wont need supporting mods.
If i had a x14xe again and wanted an inlet. I'd match it with a decent exhaust/exhaust manifold ( a decat and cherry bomb are ok for noise), mild cars (254's), UNICHIP and a raised rev limit (fitting metal cam rollers and ARP rod bolts for safety)
BUT
for all that money you would have been better of just junking the x14xe for a X16/c16xe.
Or even a 2.0... they are cheap as chips these days.
( Edit: Daimo beat me to it )

Yes. I've got an x16xe, Rebuild/ Full service around 12k ago (June last year), Full s/s system inc a 4-2-1 Janspeed manifold, decat+ straight through pipe/ no centre box. Dbilas Dynamic intake plus PVD BFO cone.
Coincide (sp) that with an F13cr box, L+B flywheel + black diamond clutch.
Always run on either BP Ultimate or V-power+ an oil / engine flush every 3k.
Its fare nippy now.
Keeps up with VTS's + beats Zetec-S's alike.

You're car must be shagged if standard for standard you were being beaten by 106 quicksilvers as from previous experience they shouldn't even be close to you.
As said though you won't find too many gains on the 1.4 16v without a decent amount of money, which in my opinion, having owned 2 of them, would be a waste
