I have a G220, if you cant get any correction with it you are clearely doing it wrong. I have detailed many cars using one and it achived 100% correction of swirl marks every time and is effortless, not using the right pad and compounds by the sounds of it.
Depending on the car depends on how hard/soft your paint is and you have to adjust the cutting rate to suit
Your motor might be covers in RDS as you wash it with a sponge no doubt?? which a rotary cannot shift and only wet sanding will remove.
As a starter get a Kestrel DAS from Cleanyourcar they will be avaliable again in April, you wont find one in the country at the moment.
It is very easy to burn through paint with a rotary its possible with a DA too, the main concern is the thickness of your paint, best to get the car paintwork surveyed with a digital paint thickness guage so you know where you stand and how much paint/clearcoat you have to play with

Machine polishing pretty straight forward. Just be careful of painted door handles, wing mirrprs etc, any plastic painted part basically as they heat up a lot quicker.

Keep the polishing pad away from any sharp edges, or at least dont leave it polishing on it for a long time.

As long as you keep the machine moving in the correct way, you'll have no problems.

If used right you'll be pretty impressed.

I never said I was doing it right.

It must be good if it's recommended on dw, that's were I spent weeks reading up on them before buying it.

Just a warning to people spending 200 quid on one, expect to have to put time and effort into learning it.

one advantage with the G220 is that its got a small pad on it, good for small and hard to get areas.

A rotary will get better results quicker.

From what i've seen it's a lot more difficult to burn through paint than myths would suggest.

What is cost price Mike?

Yawn, these are great tools, must of been using the wrong compound/pad. With a rotary you run the risk of burning paint etc.

Wtf is this, I gave my experience, being a novice, like most people who are asking on here will be.

I didn't use the wrong compounds or pads either.

Could you not just get a smaller backing plate for the one you've ordered?

I have went through 2 in about 5 months! One was my own fault for pulling on the cable to drag the exstension reel about. The 2nd one i ended up frying, got a replacement off Sealey very quickly though.

But aye, great bits of kit Sealey polishers. Built very well, and take a good beating! Still use them, got 2 just now.

also, off the record i have a mate who uses a drill with a like kitchen cleaning pad on the end off the drill bit, he says he gets better results with that then he did with a machine polisher. and it worked out alot cheaper.
