Fuel hungry cars are the best way to slow people down, as you're conscious of watching the needle dropping. So, in my opinion, anything less than a 2.0 turbo should be banned.

They'd have to change a lot of signs to put that into place, surely would cost millions of not billions and take a long time.

This is the first thing I thought of, but after rethinking the national speed limit sign is white with a black line, not a number, so a fair few signs wouldnt have to be changed

but then national speed limit is still 60. its just certain places they will change to a 50 it says. so they will need new signs. and lots of them.

TBF, these days theres not many national speed limit single carrige ways which you can do 60mph down, as you always get stuck behind someone doing 40/50
So if it goes down to 50,will all the old people do 40 then?

Cant fault the honesty! 50mph would be awful though, and almost impossible to stick to. 60 feels slow enough as it is

I think the Average Speed camera bit is bollocks though. How much would they have to spend to get them all up and running?

IF a driver is drunk and crashes when it is 60 mph limit...
How is he not going to crash when the limit is 50 mph - he's still a drunk driver.
If a driver chooses to ignore the limit of 60 mph and SPEED causing an accident...
If the same driver chooses to ignore the limit of 50 mph and Speed causing an accident - HOW IS THIS ANY DIFFERENT?
etc
bottom line is... it doesn't solve anything - except for pissing off the average motorist.
Agreed, which then leads to them becoming more aggressive and expressing road rage
Why not just limit all new cars to 70mph? it's a fooking joke

Bringing this back to the top for the people who just comment without reading.
The paper have termed it national speed limit cut.
They are proposing to cut the speed limit on the majority of roads not all.
