If you got a code on the bell housing (20xe) which is the bottom half (that correct?) and the year under the oil cap on the top half, surely that'll be enough?

You just need to get someone (Vauxhall) to prove that the 20xe engine wasn't made up to 95 and the number in that circle is the year of the head.

most garages will do a headed engineers report for about 20 notes
well round my way they will as i had a similar problem mines a 20xej and that was the first one that was built
