yeah engine number is stamped on the block and "should" be on your v5. if it is, which it "should" be and starts 20xe, then it doesnt need a cat test. for mine to be mot'd without a cat test, i took the v5 from the astra gte the engine block was from to show it matched up for a 1989 astra and the engine number in my car and v5 etc. if that makes sense.

so aslong as the log book is registered with that engine its fine?

id doubt that there checking emmision's id have thought it would be vosa out checking vehicle for using dodgy diesal

Well the van said in big bold writing "vehicle emissions check" and it actually was the police doing it in their high vis jackets.
As for the emissions mot check it's pre-aug 1992 it doesn't need it, but legally cars after that HAS to be fitted with a cat even if it does pass with out a cat.
I think it would be very hard explaining about an older engine block unless you took the papers with you at all times.

tbh though, its legal to have an older engine block fitted so it doesnt need a cat test. thats the law. you shouldnt need the papers.

ill keep a copy of total vauxhall in my car lol and prove that the engine code from a astra gte is 20xe which is before 92
