Hopefully he is looking at your two pitiful cars, laughing away in his nice M3 and wishing the same on you.

Anyone else think the parents buy these cars for their kids, not because they want the kids to be happy, but because it's a status thing for them to be able to say "Look what I bought my child to drive as his first car."

Or maybe they just have plenty of money and would rather buy them a decent car than a POS?

Thats a very small percentage of the amount of 'rich' people out there that you're basing your opinion on

I think a Corsa VXR as a first car is a decent present. A BMW M3 is just showing off to your pals at the golf club.

And Paul, that's exactly what I had in mind, 16 year old girls getting XKRs etc, they don't even appreciate the car, just the name and the price tag.

But I dont get it - because they arent into cars/won appreciate it they shouldnt have it?

If their parents are rich enough I dont get why it matters what they buy them. Its not going to make then not understand the value of money anymore, and neither does it mean they are going to go and stack it into a wall anymore than someone who has a 1.2 corsa that can do 70.

There's a greater chance of something going tragically wrong in such a high powered car though don't you agree?

I just think it's irresponsible on the part of the parents, I'm not arsed about the money side of things.

Crashing at 100+ in that won't be any wrose in that m3 than crashing a corsa at 70.

Tragedy's can happen in anything.

A brand new M3 at 16

I know a few people who have been spoiled rotten, and its done them no favours in life to be honest.

Don't get me wrong, i wouldn't turn my nose up at one, but i'd never tell anyone that my parents bough it for me. I'd feel so ashamed.

Yes but with a Corsa you know you're doing 70, it scares you

That M3 will blast up to 120 before he knows what's happening and I doubt he'll be able to react quickly enough if something goes wrong. I doubt most people my age could.
