You not thought about a Focus RS instead Eck? Similar money but much more suitable for everyday.

I like them, id be very cautious about buying one though. Most nicked car of the 90's!? Limited production. Boy racers fav. Just how do you know what your buying & how many times has it been nicked or blown up!?
That said, they look macho as fuck:

They're boring as fuck in standard form when you compare them to more modern stuff, they're not amazingly quick, but they do handle well and have decent traction.
As for the Focus RS comment, I'd say the Escort was a more practical proposition as the Focus can either be amazing, or absolutely terrible, even though they're all supposedly the same. At least the Escort is consistently dull.

I would have one but I am one of these people that would keep it in a garage 90% of the time

Had a saff cossie, used it as a daily driver only problem i ever had was a seized handbrake. Owners were in double figures on the log book too. It was the only car i ever made a profit on sold for £400 more than i paid.

If I wanted a performance 4WD car id probably look at a cossie, get a 90's icon induced school boy woody over it - then think over it too much, think about the bad points of buying one, tuck it under my belt & buy an Evo or RS6 instead.

Something like that would be my tool of choice ove an Escos imo it has everything (except a recent wash ) can even fit the dog in the back!!

Ive owned a sapphire cosworth 4x4 for 4 years its the best thing ive ever bought. Cosworths are well respected cars and turn heads wherever you go in them. You see people pointing and shouting look at that cossie, when do you ever see people doing that when a scooby, M3 or an evo goes past not often i bet because you see them round every street corner as for reliability there as strong as any other performance car out there if mapped properly and they are an all steel engine as standard not like most of your jap crap mines running 300bhp and all ive ever had to do is service it. It walks its m.o.t year after year with no problems. So just because there old doesnt mean they arent reliable in my book.

Big turbo if you want to tune, but older so therefore more risky a buy.
I personally would buy the very best you can afford. Only buy a modded one if it has extensive paperwork by a reputable company for any tuning work.
Can be a money pit..
Good luck with the purschase. Lovely cars.

£14k will buy you a 450bhp cossie on PF
I wouldn't even consider looking for a decent one unless you had £16k

Eck, my mate Graeme (306 Turbo) bought one, uses it loads, to the shops, work etc, he loves it. Paid about £14k for it, his attitude is that it was built to be driven, not locked in a garage. Not a money pit at all, never had bother with it.
