The new S4 is going to be a supercharged V6.

The Original S4 was a turbocharged 5 cylinder

confusingly in a 100/a6 shape

and called the S6 when Audi dropped the 100 tag, it was also available with a 286bhp V8, which was even more confusing

Yeah, 2.2 20v or 4.2 V8 in Europe, with an auto, or a 6 speed as an option.

Yeah, the B5 S4 did, as did the original RS4, although that had different turbos and heads designed by Cosworth, amongst other things

There's a couple of what i think are b5 S4's in essex running circa 500 bhp. They play around with the chavs giving them head starts and then killing them off The noise is immense

The A5 is kinda BMW 6 series territory though. There should be a market for both.

I always thought the S4 shared the same engine as the RS4 but in a much milder tuned spec...

But principly, the engine is the same?

Likewise the Golf TD engines are the same. Sure some parts are different for different spec engines, but principly they are still all the same 1.9 tdi units (Talking Mk4 here)...

Shell, again, surley thats the same. It might have more support, more bracings and struts, but if the shell wasn't the same, surley it wouldn't be a "4" series...?

Looking at the S4 / S5, for what you get, its a huge saving on the RS models, but comes with a lot of the positives.

I wouldnt have said that, The 6 series is hugely different in both size & style to that of the 3 series when it was launched a few years ago.

The A5 is pretty much an A4 coupe!

A5 looks much cooler, its longer, bigger, and more sexual.

A4 is more of the common repmobile type. We have 2 at work, but no A5's

The new S4 has a 3.0 V6 Supercharged engine.

328bhp, 325lb ft

But the S5 still uses the 4.2 V8 at the moment, but plans will be to put the new 3.0 unit in.

Can't see them adding a turbocharger to it to gain the extra power. SC the original 4.2 v8 maybe.
