Doesn't the thread say "World War" films? Platoon/Jarhead/Full Metal Jacket etc, are not World War films?

I never watched Band of Brothers before last week when I caught two parts (part 7 and 8) last week... and

I went straight onto the net and ordered the boxset which came last saturday. I whack the first disc in and watch all 10 parts back to back .. cant beat a Saturday morning, afternoon and evening watching an epic title 11/10! Awesome

I was actually gutted when I put the last DVD in as I knew it was coming to an end!

One thing which from the "film series" is the bond between each men and you feel abit like the soliders of the company when the replacement come in.. you're like "who the feck are you... you will never replace the man/friend they have come in for". You then share the same sense of "what the feck are we going to do now the war has ended"

Also nice to see the actual men who the characters are based on. Hands up to them!

I think band of brothers is the only film/series that ive sort of cried at. The part when they find the concentration camp. And then when the only guy who can speak german/polish has to tell the prisoners that they have to take the food back... its a killer

Platoon, Full Metal Jacket, Apocolypse Now etc are all brilliant, not just because of their 'action', but the narrative construction & meaning behind the film. Mainly because they were released when Hollywood was in crisis and young directors came to the fore.

I have learnt something at Uni

Been to Berlin, seen the sights before the film came out. Read Anthony Beevers 'Berlin' to really understand the film.
