Clio 182 all day long. As for whoever said there slow for what they are has not driven one properly. Ive owned lupo gti, mini cooper S works and CTR and the clio is the best all round package and value for money imo.

Never driven either car but I'd prefer the Gsi as Clio's do nowt but fall to bits and parts are stupidly expensive.

They are like chalk and cheese
decide what you want and go from there. Either fast and refined or raw and fun.
I test drove both and felt that the 182 was more of the car for me. Gsi is lovely but too dull.
I went for a CTR in the end so I have a bit of both

Had a GSI, a fast one, boring to drive. the only feedback you get is when you're full lock left and still going in a straight line.
How about a 98 spec DC2 Integra?

Try admaril they were about the same for the 182 and CTR for me. CTR is £70 more
Although driving wise they are pritty much the same (both are as fast as each other, rev happy, good handling). Just the civic is a bit more roomy inside which suits me as I am fairly tall.
Teg's will be more to insure still.
What do you want from a car? personally its the 182 for me due to the fun factor. Can still happily cruise around in it mind.

But I've had it a couple of years now and It's grown on me,
And VXR I wasnt trying to say springs make it handle, I was making the point that puting on a set of springs alone does nothing but lower the car.
I paid out on a decent suspension kit and shortened drop links and I can honestly say it's been the best thing I've done to the car,
It's more planted, can turn in quicker, carry more speed through the corners,
I like to drive it properly, hence the reason I stayed with 17" wheels when I fancied a change.
I guess the point is,...
Clio - Better handling out of the box
Astra - Better in every oter way.
Better in every other way? same speed if not a bit slower straight line, less spec, more likely to go wrong, worse handling even with some Apex crap or whatever people fit - plus you cant compare a modified car with a standard one, fit a set of eibach pros on the clio and it will be all over the Astra no matter how trick your suspension is

Although the build quality is seriously questionable, the only issue I had with my clio was the spark plugs needing replaced.
These and other parts are stupidly expensive though.
Same as any other car, depends how it's been looked after.
Also, i've seen my fair share of astras, it is bigger and comfier but I wouldn't say the build quality is that much better than the clio.

I would go for the clio then unless you want a cruiser/straight line speed monster
If you get bored of the power get some ITB's on there
How old are you and what ncb's you got out of interest?

this is all crap clio's build quality is not very good when compared to the astra gsi, i own a gsi and im very happy with it its like shep said it does grow on you as i found mine boring to begin with but haver fettled with it and its lovely now......... i drive audi's/bmw's alot of the time through the week so know what build quality should be gsi seems good but not top
the two cars in question are very different from one another so you need to decide what you want from a car, the clio is just going to be like a faster version of you saxo you stated you had, but gsi is big comfy/reliable well for me 2 years not a penny spent on fixing/look gorgeous in arden blue.
i would choose the gsi but maybe im biased but i never brought my gsi as a fast car its just car for me and mrs to drive and share for shoppong/trips out etc etc got ather vehicles for pleasure......
lets just say id buy another gsi if i sold mine and im picky

Clios are well built imo. Feel very solid for what they are. No more likely to break down then a astra gsi either

yer they still have a plasticy feel but I was just putting accross that they are miles ahead of saxo's and such like.
If build quality bothered you that much you wouldnt be looking at either of these really
