Would love to give a mac a go just at the price of one seems to much to risk if you don't like it despite the reviews. Windows on the other hand however is "free" lol

I took the plunge this time last year, spent £800 on an imac, had never ever used a mac before. I don't regret it one bit, and as long as money allows I'll probably stick with them now.

Everything just works with them.
Not really true, they have their faults (both hardware and OSX) and 10.5 is a little bit shite really - still a load of bugs that should have been sorted before it was released. Have a focusrite 26 that doesn't completely agree with OSX, throws a wobbler every week or so - just fires white noise to the outputs, great if you're monitors are directly connected!
And try Protools HD on 10.5.3, fecking shocking. HD is still a little rusty on 10.5.5, i've had the digi driver randomly close a few times - Digidesign blames Apple, Apple says it's Digidesign's dodgy programming......
10.4 on the other hand was solid as, never had a problem.
Still, i'll happily agree that Macs, well OSX, is superior to Windows when do anything hardcore - Video editing, Music work, Graphics etc.
But i think we are planning on upgrading to protools 8 hd as soon as it come out With a new mac pro.
A uni friend works for Avid (mostly on Digidesign/M-Audio side) and he's got the Beta of PT8 - say's it's brilliant, especially the new plugins that are bundled and the new interface. Although, he said it's still pretty buggy. Hopefully i'll be able to have a butchers come launch date when he gets given a copy Will be interesting to see if it's any more stable on 10.5.5 than PT7 though.
Not sure whether we'll be upgrading in our studios especially as they've just forked out for 10 2xQuadCore Mac Pros and HD systems, inc a few C24's and SPL/Avalon pre's.

Buying a mac and buying a pc or laptop don't matter they are just hardware, mac and windows are simply software, so none is really faster unless setup that way, mac has a more user friendly touch to it i personally think.

it does look good. Im wondering what then new instruments and scoring are going to be like on it, but im guessing seeing as they now own sibeileus, it should be pretty good. Midi should be alot better aswell I think they are trying to take over the market slowly, i.e adding scoring + better midi with bring it more into the path of logic users.
What studio do you work in btw? Or you at "college" like me? lol

Well they've got to step up to the plate, with logic/digital performer/cubase/Nuendo etc Although, PT is miles ahead in terms of audio editing, it was just the midi side of things that always let it down. And to be honest, if scoring is your thing then no DAW can compete with Sibelius.
And yeah, the plugin list i've seen looks pretty good, a load of new compressors/eg's and a few RTAS virtual instruments. Yet to hear any of it though, but i've been told they sound pretty good and comparable to the Waves suit.

What he said. Although i am thinking of getting a pc for gaming use soon, just tend to get endless problems/viruses with them unless you ram it full of virus software. I've put FA on my mac and never had one problem
