Nothing to do with warming the engine faster so doesnt say much for your college course. The choke is there for cold starts because when the air entering the engine is cold, the fuel mixture will not suspend properly in air and sticks to the cylinder walls, thats why more fuel is added so that it can be suspended in the air.

Ofcourse on modern cars there is no choke as its called warm up cycle and it is controlled by the engines ECU, so the exact amount of fuel is injected into the cylinder depending on the conditions, ie cold start procedure, cruise and wide open throttle.

i still have the fmaily '85 Nova hatch which has a manual choke. at 17 (5 yrs ago now!) i was the only person in the school car park with a manual choke and giving lifts to friends always included questions about it!

Have any of you driven with a non syncro-mesh gear box and had to double de-clutch? I'm talking old school here, front drum brakes.


I would rather lose by a mile because i built my own car, than win by an inch because someone else built it for me.

correct
on modern cars since it is injection its probably is more fuel.

Yeah, that ok some getting used to

But the way my 2nd-3rd in the Ibiza is going, i'll be double de-clutching to get from one to the other soon

My first Nova had one. Used to get it to top out on the motorway then pull the choke for that extra 2mph
