I find the astra really slow and boring in terms of pace these days. Its like, "knock into 2nd, go go go goooooo snoooze 3rd snoooooze as the revs rise :lol"
My bikes so much more fun, plus it revs to 12,000rpm, but as its only a shonky 650 (no-where near as quick as a SS600), but it still goes. I have good fights with porkies and such up to about 120, then they leave me.
But seeing as its just a plain ol Bandit, the cars it can keep with is crazy.
God forbid a Hiyabusa, with a turbocharger, keeping the nose down must be insane (see quoted GhostRider's Hiyabusa).
Saw it really for the first time at the drag racing at Crail. A WRC Focus rep was putting in times that were 0.5sec slower than a Hiyabusa with Nos! Am sure the tarmac moved under its wheels lol.
Bad times when you're calling a VXR slow tbh can't imagine what it's like to go fast on a bike - maybe something for the future methinks.
And that Ghostrider's insane. Seen the vid of him causing the Volvo estate chasing him to crash?:

Yeah watch that loads, love the toying
Honestly, mines a diddy bike, could call it a noob bike, but it'll still be in license loosing speeds very quickly.
Sure the torques pants (Bar twin and triple engines), and they'll need some revving to get going, but once your in that rev range, adios most stuff.
Bear in mind you can get a brand new 1000cc Superbike for like £6-£7k these days. NOTHING with 4 wheels will come close for similar money.
You watch the speedo literally skip numbers to keep up. Where-as the VXR, the speedo relaxes it way up the speeds, slowly followed by the revs.
its not bad, but getting in teh astra and "planting it" after getting home from work on the bike, it feels so so slow. Its ok say in 2nd when theres still some punch, but 3rd upwards it feels quite slow, and a little bland.
Honestly, bikes really do rock, try one, if you've got the bottle to do your test, the first time you wind open a 600+cc bike, u'll be hooked for life.

Correct about the performance per £ thing, you'd think more people would have a bike as well as a car.
And I know what you mean about comparing the two. It's like when I'm out driving the work's transit pickup it's obviously a big, lumbering fat bastard of a thing. So when I come back and get in mine to go home it feels rapid! Like a 160bhp go-kart , so I can just wonder what it's be like to go from car to bike!

theres the drawbacks......
Easy to die (pfff who's worried about that, if your dead, your dead )
Need winter and summer gear, kit can be expensive.
VERY easy to loose license, lots of self control needed
I love my cars, i really do, I love being thrown into the back of my seat, or g-forces when going round a bend...
But then nothing beats hanging off the side of a bike, on a nice summers day, knocking it through the gears and flowing bend after bend.
Lots of fighter pilots own bikes, its the closest they can get to flying a plane on the road.
That says a lot alone..........

Not even accelerating hard or using all the revs, it was a gentle ride!
Agreed with bikes being addictive, it's worse than any drug.
Also, I don't find it hard to make my 636 hard to go fast Daimo, even in 6th it picks up so quickly that I often think I'm in a lower gear. Maybe that's just because this is the most powerful bike I've ridden, feels fast enough for me anyway

See my box is really close, im in 6th by 120 (flat out riding).
The old girls big, wallowy, not super fast, but the box is nice, and where your flicking through the gears all the time it makes you feel like working more.
Bit like driving a 2.0 corsa (RAW) to driving a Civic Type R (smooth). One feels much quicker, you have to work harder, but you feel more reward (corsa).
Hence why XE Corsas and novas are so popular.
Grahams bikes much quicker than mine, and he cheats with the extra 36cc for the torque ( ).
Im waffling now, im gonna go wank over a Benelli LE and Ducati Desmodeci

Graham88 I sometimes try to put the corsa into 6th from 5th, when I mistake it for 3rd. Same idea, smaller scale maybe
VXR, that's the only reason I don't drive a bike just now - the sheer danger of it. Plus the fact that I'd get kicked out the house seeing as the maw hates them has her reasons though.
What's the deal with having a track bike? Is it the same idea as a car as in special days on at circuits and the like?

I constantly drive to put it into 7th, it's very annoying, as I forget what gear I'm in.
Yeah same situation, just have to trailer/back of a van it to the track, no MOT or Tax needed etc

Ahh see mine is a 650, not a SS600 trying to cheat the rest (banter)...
Alan - Pfff your life. Dads broken his neck (paralysed 2 weeks), gangreen, broken ribs, currently recovering from shattered thigh/hip and ripped shoulder muscle, etc etc....... None at fault of himself (proven).. He bought another very tasty bike before he could even walk again Nothing will stop him biking.
Im with you though, fast road riding is becoming fast more dangerous. Why hammer it into a bend, and if you loose it, wrap yourself round a tree.
LEast with track days, your all there to do one thing, and if you do bin it, theres a gravel trap, and StJohns straight on hand to assist, and no tree to embed yourself into.
I've thought about a track only bike myself, but from 2 cars (formally 3 ) all have center exit exhausts, so i'd need a van.
Van + bike + prepping bike = muchos cash

Aye, can see the want to keep on biking - when I smashed me previous car it didn't put me off at all, just taught me a lesson.
Track bike's a thought tbh. Fast car for the road, even faster bike for the track!
We're talking years away at this point though, get some serious cashflow first.

Bikes themselves ain't that bad. It's the people riding them or other road users. Or more often nowadays you hear about bad road surfaces, pot hole on a bend etc

I guess you don't ride one
Roads are fine to ride, just not at "motorsport speeds" which is the law anyway.
Car drivers are terrible, but you ride accordingly. As Grahams said, is it the bike itself, or the biker that is the danger?????
Alan, thats an 1130, they've been pulled from production at the moment. I don't like them really.
This is what i want.
Daddy

One of these is worth £24k, the other is worth £6k

Sorry, any talk of Benellis and i get real excited and get a stiffy

lol, aye - read back at any bike posts - every time you go on about bennelli's and duke desmo's! lol
edit: fact of the matter is - there are better bikes out there for far less money.

Yes, and???
I simply adore them? Whats the problem?
Better bikes for far less money..... Maybe straightline, but itt's thinner, lighter, and handles better than a Jap IL4. Also if you like being like everyone else, thats fine. If you want a little class though......
So it is't as fast in a straight line.... Booorrring.... 170 is still plenty.
Duke desmo's are out of my league, this is obtainable.
MV Augusta is far more expensive than a Jap bike... I know which i'd rather have. Price makes no difference if you want a little class and not be like everyone else following the fold.

mate I was winding you up, but its a shame we dont see many/any? Benelli's winning superbike races though eh.... outpaced by all those lesser handling jap bikes on track! lol
I must have owned or ridden atleast 90% of the top rated bikes and the best bike for the road IMO ofcourse is a GSXR750k7.... like mine. (I've currently got a CBR6RR,TL1000S,DRZ400 and GSXR in the garage.)
ofcourse - like I say - I've tried bikes from all leagues and (almost) every popular manufacturer.

Didn't work then, I don't allow this websites users to wind me up anymore im afraid.
For someone thats into motorcycles, that question of WSB is a little strange... And yes Benelli did race in a few WSB races...
But then i guess a 900cc 3 cyclinder is meant to match a 1000cc 4 cyclinder for pace....????
Yes, lesser handling machines. Dees an RS250 handle better than a ZXR400? Yes. Why, weight....... 400's make it back on power.
Does a triumph 675 handle better than a CBR600, yes. Does the 600 make it back on power, yes...
GSXR750 is an awesome machine on the road, but by the time you get in the revs, your already checking your speed to see if your going to keep your license.
Owning a TL you should be able to see why i'd love a V2 or Triple to ride on the road over a GSXR, even if the GSXR makes it extremly easy to ride.
You will never sway my love for Benellis Nor my constent ramblings about how much i love them
