I did Quantity surveying at uni and if I didn't have a degree I wouldn't have a job. I worked whilst going to uni for the last two years of my degree which helped me in my uni work as I had a better understanding of the course.
I believe your above statement to be utter pish.
was that day release or full time?

If so;
1. What are you studying?
2. Has it helped you get the job you want?
3. In hindsight would you have gone to University?
1) Did my BSc (hons) in Animal Science
2) Yes it definitely helped me get the job I am in now without a doubt
3) Yes I would do it all over again, possibly a more specialised BSc though in the industry I am working in now as I've had to do loads of extra studying to get my degree acceptable to the IBMS.

MEng Mechanical Engineering
2. Has it helped you get the job you want?
Yes, I wouldn't have been able to get the job I've got lined up unless I did a degree.
3. In hindsight would you have gone to University?
Without a doubt, if I hadn't have come to uni I would have a much harder job on my hands to gain Chartered Engineer status. This course satisfies the acedemic aspect.
I have to say though that the experience I gained when I did a placement year has helped me a huge amount, and I agree that there is no subsitute for experience and actually getting out there and doing the job, but I think uni has equipped me with a great deal of knowledge to help in gaining that experience and allowing me to progress much quicker through the company.

Never went to Uni, straight from A-Levels into a job. But i find the graduates we get in ask for a stupid amount of money and they only know things in theory not what they will actually look like in reality. Thats where i find the experience ive gained through not going through Uni has helped me, though the company is to pay for a Degree course for me, on day release, which i found the best way for me to get the necessary qualifications for chartership.

Tiesto has a good point, all my mates at uni think there going to walk out of uni into a job thats at least 30k without really looking
i went to surrey uni to do motorsport, didnt like it, wasnt really to do with motorsport, so left, and now im better off.
but the thing that got me was that were people who had come from doing the a levels, and knew fuck all about cars, most have never stripped and engine, asked one guy if he could change a drive shaft, he didnt even knew what is was.
