I guess I'm speaking from being in a long term relationship, so there is no apprehension, but still, I don't see how it's a turn off when you know what is coming  or when the girl puts it on but takes her time about it.
There is more than 1 way of doing it, other than going "old on love, just got to get a rubber", turning the light on and walking to the drawer etc.
