Moi

Screw the "poor mans this n that" comments.

Get one. There won't be many other 21yr olds with a Porsche.

I had a 52 plate Boxster at 22.
Insurance was quite expensive, but it was actually a group 20 at the time.
They're not the fastest thing around. But, the drive more than makes up for it. Easily the best handling car i've had, without a doubt.
The hood goes down well, so you get to enjoy the sunshine too
Oh, and added bonus of Porsche engine soundtrack even the 2.7 sounds great.

Would I get one again?
I'm already looking into the 3.4S, so yes

No don't get a hardtop
I thought the same at the time. But, its an absolute bitch to look after.
Its hard to put on, and when its off, you've got to store it somewhere.

My point was I wouldn't take it off

Whatever floats your boat tho. I just think convertibles with hardtops on look ace. Convertible M3s with a hardtop look better than a standard M3 for instance.

It was £1000 for the hardtop on mine. I thought it'd be great for winter use etc.
Turns out, cabin noise is louder, and has more restrictive visibility
Biggest waste of money.

I do like the 3 series hardtop though. They look a bit spesh

Servicing and general maintainence isn't that bad. As expected of Porsche

I don't have pics on here.
Mine was a very low miler.
I'd be looking at facelifted versions because the trim is that bit nicer and you don't get orange indicators etc.

I've personally not heard of anything dodgy to look out for though.

I would say its going to be more reliable than a 106, but with a car like a boxster you are more likely to find one that has been looked after imo.

As Brett said, without looking into it. I'd imagine repair bills would be horrendous. Even stuff that just wears out, bushes etc will be a nasty job probably, it will be a fancy suspension setup on one of them.

I'd go do some research on a porsche forum.

Apart from R Lee everybody here is guessing, they could be cheap as chips to service.

be wary of an older car. Just because the owner had the money to buy it doesnt mean they had the money to run it. My z3 was in ok nick, but i sent £1500 replacing brakes, tyres, sensors, etc to get it to a proper std. It had fsh, etc.

Being wealthy doesnt mean the cars they buy are any better looked after. Its the individual. I would not buy privately with a car of that age.

Too risky.
