A truck cab with no trailer will give most performance cars a run for their money from a standing start, looooots of torque.

Erm ok.......
But the Civic has 10bhp more than me so should have won then??
Thats the whole point of bhp sells cars, torque wins races. The civic has more bhp,i have more torque.I won.
My mates DC2 has alot mote BHP than me,but still cant keep up.How does that work??
P.S theyrs no replacement for displacement........

way ive always understood it:
Bhp is the "power" figure out and out.
Torque is the "transmission of power"
I.e torque is that force which gets the power to the ground in effect.
So no use having 500bhp and 100l/b torque as itl never have the full potential.
A decent engine should have even-ish bhp/torque figures.

bhp is fuck all without the torque as there saying, and it comes from things like gearboxes etc but torque is power to the ground really! how much pull you've got more torque better you'll be.

The new 335d has enough torque to pull the ground from under it.Once on the move, itl take a very fast car to catch it or even keep up.
Infact anything BMW diesel powered these days are rockets.
