isn't a 1.2 16v sxi quicker than a 1.4 8v sri?
People will say no, but I'll tell you now there is nothing in it.
there is. 65bhp vs 90bhp. my mates sri beats my 1.2 16v
What 1.2 16v has ever made less than 75bhp? Honestly? A 1.4 8v SRi is 82bhp, on the road that is 7bhp difference and being that the 8v will have been on the road a lot longer than the 16v the 7bhp that it had over the 1.2 will probably have gone through wear and tear.
the 1.2 is 65bph as parkers says. and the 1.4 8v mpi is 90. thats alot of difference!! iv got two mates with corsa 1.4's one with a sri mpi, and one with a 1.4 16v. they thrash me. simple!! what corsa's have you owned?

Your 1.2 16v was never anywhere near my 1.4 16v?????
Yet Matt C and Vicki could happily sit on my backside at top end and they both had 8v SRi's to start with.
So whats the answer?
Mid range speeds, the 16v, although the 8v has a better torque spread at a lower RPM, the 16v pull much harder top end. But both are just as fast as each other.
8v had a "book" top speed of 108mph, but as I say, could happily sit on a 16v's backside.
Had a 1.2 16v, 1.4 8v SRi, and a 1.6 16v
1.2 16v lacked the torque to be/feel as fast (retrospectivly using "fast" as a word, as its not what corsas are known for ) although it was only a few peak hp down.

Honestly, old skool proven knowledge beats some online internet random fact (parkers is as about as good as a chocolate teapot).
The 1.2 16v's made between 65-75bhp standard depending on engine condition, rollers etc. Many made over 70bhp
As for asking oj what vuaxhalls/corsas he's owned a few
Also, the 8v NEVER made 90bhp.
spi - 60bhp
Mpi - 82bhp
16v - 90bhp
C16 - 109bhp
X16 - 106bhp

Hello? I didn't say anything about the 1.4 16v, I was comparing the 1.2 16v against the 1.4 8v Mpi 82bhp
You say Matt C and Vicki could keep up with your 1.4 16v, was that the ECOTECH version of your engine or the ECOTEC?

Parkers is wrong, we came to the conculsion that the 1.2 16v engine in the B produces 75bhp in 2001.
What Corsas have I owned? 1 or 2

according to total vaux mag, 80bhp from the sri, 92 from 16v sport.

I love these discussions, we keep on going around in circles.
The Corsa SRi came with two engines, early 1.4 8v SRi's C14SE producing 82bhp, the later SRi's came with 1.4 16v X14XE producing 90bhp.
The SRi badge was dropped and replaced with the Sport in 1996 (Daimo will correct me if I'm wrong) and that had the X14XE engine as well, which produces 90bhp also.

Parkers is ALWAYS wrong. Its rubbish. Even the figures in TV (if they still do them) are wrong, but they are printed in TV, this means they MUST be right???
These are VAUXHALL figures

MANY factors.
Age
Previous engine abuse
mileage
etc etc.....
I've had all, yeah the C 1.2 sits up top end nice, but you try accelerating in 3rd gear from 30mph and see what pulls (if both healthy engines).
