If it doesnt meet certain critiea it coudl be knocked off the index or halt tradin gon their shares. For this to happen to be a bank would be very bad.

edit - when the DJI took a massive hit a week or two ago aload of companies fell off because they were like a penny each or lower

Looking at the index is good but that doesnt mean everyone made a massive loss/gain.

You could buy into some of the ftse100 companies and then they go bust and you loose all your cash. Analysts are saying theres going to be more companies going to the wall.
