Well if you have just road side assistance as long as your more than 1/4 away from your home then they'll take you to the nearest garage of the AA's choice or somewhere of your choice providing it's no further.

And if you'd been in an accident, should have called your claimline and they would have send one out for you and then took the vehicle to one of the insurers bodyshops etc etc

And it depends what level of cover you have with your chosen breakdown service, if you have relay, and you break down 100 miles away from your home and you want to be taken home, they'll do it, though cause of driving hour restrictions may be subject having to swap drivers half way through etc

yea but the body damage was bad, was just a front bumper cracked, was all sub frames and shit..and calling claimline aint going to work when the 3rd party

but can see where im getting from, over 2 hours to take him less than half a mile away just to then be told they cant do anything about it..he reversed with one wheel drive quicker than he got recovered

As said, AA aren't crash recovery... thats for your insurers to deal with in fairness

Lets be honest its much of a muchness between AA/RAC and Green Flag et al

Think it's down to personal experience aswell also, some people have good and some bad experiences to be honest.

But having either AA or RAC you can't go wrong at all though in fairness.

I'm with AA 'cause I get Homestart, Roadside & Relay for £25 additional name on dad's policy ftw.

Top Tip: If you're at Uni, register your home address as where your parents live. That way, when you're at your 'home' at Uni, its classed as roadside etc.

Yea that deal through the bank is good in fairness, only flaw with it is you don't get discounts with the AA but that's if you want your car insurance with the AA that is and you on;y get 10% anyway, but personally theres much cheaper companies out there, and their rubbish for modified cars anyway! lol

with the rac, its your name on the card but its the car thats actually covered, when a patrol comes to the breakdown he will look at the car if hes unable to repair the car, depending on the cover you have he will arrange for the car to be recovered, whether you have an engine conversion or not doesnt matter the only thing the patrolman will be looking for is if the cars able to get on the rtd with any hassle or if the vehicle needs to be recovered by flatbed, rac's only issue would be with lowered cars, bodykitted cars with lack of ground clearance as it makes it difficult to recover.

i get rac cover for free from my work its a perk of the job really, used it once cause i locked my keys in the corsa 25 mins later i had the keys in my hand

My mate has RAC and they won't recover him more than 10 miles. Bloody useless as he works 40 from home.

I have AA and they came out and recovered it because I was a passenger.

Yeah, my AA is for me, not the vehicle, so I can be in any car.

I have RAC and can't fault it. I think I used it 7 times on my old bike, twice on my Corsa and now once on my Fiesta. Never told them about a new vehicle so it's down to my name. Surprised they haven't cancelled my policy tbh

They also suck in a way, as even though I told them my Corsa had blown it's engine, they still were adamant it could be fixed. After a mini argument on the phone I just said to them fine send one out but you're wasting my time and your money. Bloke arrives, turns it over, says yeah your engines gone and sends for a recovery truck. That was annoying as it wasted an hour

Other than that I can't fault them.

And also, they recovered me when I crashed my old bike, so they are crash recovery too.

ian you mate must be a tightarse to just have roadside, i dont get it why agree to pay for roadside then moan when your outwith the terms of your agreement

Graham88 it a pain when you know its dead but they insist on a patrol coming out,to then be told yes its broken and have to wait about 60mins for the flatbed to arrive, but most people work on a worst case senirio its deffo a buggered engine and you go out and its something simple, well not all the time lol

and we recover lots of things other then cars lol

The alternator went on dad's car and he had it booked into BMW to have it repaired. So he drove it without the alternator light on and got as far as he could.

He just told the AA on the phone that don't send a patrol, he just needs recovering 2 miles to the BMW garage where it's booked in. 30 minutes later a flat bed contractor turned up

My mates with AA, he took me 60 miles today for my check in to go offshore, just turning into heliport he though there was an odd noice, and noticed he had no boost. (1.9 gt tdi golf)

He pulls away, no turbo and smoke everywhere :L

AA came and picked him up, towed him to a VW specialist garage which he reccomended and hes also going to claim off his AA insurance for the repair. They cover up to £500 of the repair bill, hes looking at £500 at least from the garage for the new turbo.

Iv just been pricing AA cover for myself
