It's well known that the 6mp D40 produces cleaner higher ISO images than the 10mp D60/D80.
If you attach a Pro lens to the D40 you'll be hard pushed to tell it apart from the D300 when printing upto A3.
The Nikon kit lenses are well regarded unlike other brands that bundle mediocre lenses with their bodies.
The Nikons are also far nicer to hold than most other DLSRs, this seems minimal but it can make a difference on a full day shoot.

Id also like to know what Pixel Detection is all about.
On another note, no offence to Lee, but moving on from a fuji S5700 Its not really going to make any noticable difference if he goes Canon, Nikon or Sony. Personally id go with the Sony or Canon, purely for the reasons regarding Autofocus on the Nikon

Im talking from experience, ive used all the SLRs mentioned in the thread. Working in a camera shop has its perks. A good photographer isnt one that knows about cmos. Show us some of your pics and prove your amazing knowledge is put to good use.

Do you mean like what a scanner does when it produces pixels in coordination with the colours around it to enhance the resolution?

just talked to 5 of my photography teachers and the owner of the photography department in southport collage
pixel detection does exist
its basicly what you said there butler
but in a more open form
oh and all this disscussion actualy about cameras.. the cannon g9 is ABSOLUTLEY the best that you can go for
and you can get it for 250 delivered..
oh and butler like you sed about the auto focus problem you need the £££ but to be honest if you want to get into photography properly you have to be willing to spend the monry dont you

Although you are talking balls let's humour you.
Why would a DSLR be adding information that's not there?
In general, people with DSLR's want the picture as it was taken straight from the camera with little to no processing, why would it make the camera better if it added some random information to the file?

it doesnt add anything to the file u frigging Ejet
it just sharpens the picture and the detail
if you had a picture with no pixel detection then it would come out COMPLEATLY blurred and crap
where as with pixel detection it pick out the pixles and makes them sharper
it doesnt add anything to the file atall mate

Yes Flaffy, all cameras process the information they recieve, we knew that.
An as for the Canon G9 being the absolute best you can buy
