with what mods?

Warren had a highly modded 1.4 and made 104bhp

although Jr's 1.4 was mental

I'm going to say what I always say. My 1.4 had 116bhp but it was not as quick as a standard 1.6, it also cost more to insure than a standard 1.6 would have done and used more fuel.

I've never understood buying a corsa (or any other car) with a smaller engine than you want, then planning to put an engine from the spec above, instead of just buying the spec above originally.

exactly, i can see the reason behind putting an xe or let in one, but why not just get a 1.6 in the first place? will be cheaper to insure, and engine conversions are hassle, plus vauxhall might be better than your local mechanic.
