Stole my neigbours for about 6 months when my ISP were being cocks with my connection.
Worst thing was, the bastard kept downloading when I was playing games which lagged me out - so I connected to his own router and kicked him off

For some reason a lot of routers sent out by ISPs have little to no security by default, and unless you have some knowledge about setting up security on your router etc. you leave yourself open to attack/Internet bandwidth theft.

First thing I did when getting a router is to setup the security. A lot of people out there don't know enough or care about it. At the g/f's house there is 6 open wifi networks in the vicinity and only 1 WEP which I suppose is better than nothing and 1 WPA. I wonder how many complaints to ISP's about slow activity could be blamed on this .

how would you notice if someone was using your broadband? Everyone should have a password anyway.

Slowdown of connection, another IP listed under 'attached devices' on your router config page, all your files disapearing etc
Most people have unsecured wireless networks and router login details along the lines of 'Admin' and 'Password'

At the connection im pinching now, the only thing password protected is the file sharing. Ive no interest in that anyway, just pretty cool having internet in the car. Considering getting mobile broadband now, pretty sweet.

On my router i can monitor who's connected to the router, what pages they are visiting and i can view all their files. Magic.

I have a BT homehub and the wireless light flashes alot, does that mean anything?
It shows its sending out a wireless signal. if the data light flashes and your not connected to the internet be worried. BT Home hubs come with security as standard...
