Don't wanna go as big as a Veccy

I'd like drive a MK4 Astra as people rate their handling really. How do you find yours danny? Do you know if theres much scope for tuning the 2.0 DTI? Remap or owt?

Sure I read some people can get 130BHP... not many 3 doors about for 2k though I guess.

Nah mines a 5 door. I dont tend to push it handling wise as I only ever really drive with the missus in the car + im going for reliability. The scope for tuning is limited, from what Ive found out you can get around 130bhp/200ftlb maybe a little more with a remap, catback and panel filter and vectra breathing mod. Apparently if you install a rear ARB that really brightens up the handling. You get 45-55mpg under fairly hard acceleration upto cruising speeds of 80/90mph, if you drive properly can easily get 60mpg (well, I can)

edit - Steve X16XE on here had his SRi trimmed one for 5 years, mines the SXi, same performance just a bit different styling I think. Also paul.mitchell#### has the SRi but dont know if he is kicking around on here anymore

I've just recently bought a 52 astra sxi, for just over 2k. Loving it atm, can't fault it, passed MOT fine. It's a much better car than my old 306.

I bought a 2.0 Focus zetec a year ago now. Best £2300 ive ever spent, handles great and sounds good, especially compared to a corsa and astra! I'm not one for modding cars so i wanted one that would handle without having to faff aound with lowering springs and the like.

Get a 2000 model and the tax will be regular £185 or whatever

Edit: And to answer your question, yes 1.8s and 2.0s are worse on fuel but the 1.6 foci have sod all torque, makes them horrible to drive IMO.

Yes, lol. No harm in trying ay Love the astra, some people might think they are a grandads car, but it doesn't bother me, alot better to drive than my old car, and air con and working electrics are a BIG bonus
