Gunna try and get a test drive in one Saturday. Trying to convince her that a 1.6 petrol is the way forward. Gunna get flamed, but, whats the fuel consumption like? Tax is only £155 under new rules for an early one so thats fine, only £35 more than her A-class and insurance is less.

BMW told her to take it easy for 1000 miles or so either way i wasn't allowed to redline it
hers is a facelift One, 1.4 16V, haven't driven the pre-facelift one so i can't comment really

Doubt there would be THAT much difference would there?
Bet the 1.4 16v sips!
Although, the 1.4D looks like a good buy now, fairly cheap.

iirc the 1.4 16V was no worse off on fuel than the pre facelift 1.6

in fact, parkers states that the average MPG of the prefacelift 1.6 to be 43, and the 1.4 is 53, same 0-60 times etc

not that bad, they just don't get particularly good on fuel, around town theres lots of starting and stopping obv. then on the motorway it revs high. the best i've had out of it is 30mpg which was alittle motorway and mostly town, some raggage. apparently on the motorway they can get up to 40 but the most i've read about is 36ish

TBH I'd much prefer to take something at least abit sporty, the Astra is a real boat in all manner of ways and you need to take something fun to the 'ring. If I had taken the Mini Cooper I would of been at least another £400 quid down because of the fun i would of had with tyres and petrol
