Probably doesn't need massive downforce at rear then.
Perhaps some at the front would be better advised.

I didn't think that they were going to use a 4wd system due to the extra weight and cost. I though that "they said" that they have sorted out the handleing and power with electronic gizmos.

Probably not Paul, it is FWD but they have completely redesigned the whole front suspension so it no longer uses a traditional mcpherson strut setup, but more a mcpherson strut that acts more like a double wishbone (dubbed RevoKnuckle by Ford).
Its apparently cheaper than a double wishbone setup, and almost as good. Its going to have a Quaife LSD as standard too.
Here is a diagram of RevoKnuckle compared to a standard setup:

Only if VX made it, aka the Astra VXR.
Monday nights 5th Gear proved that more power means nothing if the chassis can't cope. The Astra got handed it's ass by the less powerful heavier ST.
The RS is going to be very special.

The Focus ST happily deals with 280bhp plus through the front wheels, that's got no fancy diff and no funky suspension....
The Fiesta ST copes with that power too FFS
Just because it's FWD doesn't mean it will be shit, the chassis is very good, it'll be an awesome car.

It would be slower if it was 4WD though, and would have been a lot more money, no-one would have paid £35k for a Focus.

The designers, on that video that was posted in here months ago, said there was both variants and the FWD outperformed the 4WD by far.
Might be talking nonsense but that's what was said!

why does everyone doubt ford so much? they're already proved they can make great handling cars/chassis that can cope with the power.
until you've driven one yourself, you have no opinion on it being a shit drive or not
