no. they dont necessarily map higher.
any experience of mapping the 2.0 tdi non dpf vag engine?
looking to see what i shud expect from it... currently 140
yes, done quite a few. TBH they dont feel as good as the standard 170 version when mapped but they are quicker. typical gains are 40bhp and 60ft/lb.
the latest VW/Audi 2.0 td engines are common rail rather than PD which is a big step back as far as tuning goes

MPG effected?

the effect remapping has on the MPG varies massively on the map Scott.
I did a generic economy map on my fabia as soon as I bought it and then I had a 180 mile drive to a mates house. traffic was clear and in 6th at 70mph all the way it clocked up an average of 68.9 mpg.
I put a power map onto it (generic again) and drove another 150 miles back home, same speeds, same road condions and I got 48 mpg.
now I can use the generic economy map and map in more power under higher throttle loads (70mph in 6th is about 2000-2500 rpm and 6-8% throttle) so I will keep that area economical. anything above about 15% throttle I can map for higher fuelling and boost, this will give me the best of both worlds

Also, I prefer these engines with a much less aggressive map, some maps are far too harsh and power is instant from low throttle loads causing the boost to surge. This often causes the clutch to die rather quickly and the torque peaks early and drops off suddenly. by using a less aggressive map the power isnt as sudden but the clutch lasts longer, torque is far smoother and tends to be held over a longer rev range rather than peaking and dropping. peak bhp and torque is lower but is held for longer overall.

only way to go is a custom map then.
but even then its down to the way the car is driven.

Mine is estimated between 160 and 185, but i've never had it on a rolling road.
It's considerably quicker than it was at 130 (or whatever the standard actually was) with just a cupra intake and green cotton filter as additional bits of tat.
The power delivery tho is much, much smoother than it was as standard and is a pleasure to drive - my economy has gone through the roof whilst driving sensibly too.
Mine was £300 from a local guy who specializes in remapping 4x4s for proper offroad use instead of a school run, and has recently moved onto vag diesels.
It was all custom, took him hours of taking it out for a drive, taking all sorts of readings - boring to wait for but a good end result!

yes, drove about 100 miles from chepstow (where I bought the car) to my brothers house in similar road conditions and speeds and got 54.4 mpg.

yes, done a few on the VAG stuff as well. you can have 3 saved maps
(standard economy and power is the usual) and can be switched easily in the car. although if you have a custom map you will get the economy and the power and use the throttle pedal to decide between the two.

With a re-map you should see better economy if you are careful anyway

Have you remapped a VAG 2.0 TDI 170 DPF? Not the common rail.
Just wondering what sort of torque/bhp & MPG figures are afterwards

yes, they make about 190 bhp peak with a gain of 50 bhp at 2300 rpm and 300 ft/lb with a gain of 110 ft/lb at 2300 rpm!
not massive peak figures as the big gain is from 1500-3500 rpm but they are much better to drive this way.
a great indication of why peak BHP isnt important.

Had a Custom Remap on my Fabia VRS a few months back.
180bhp

315lb's ft Torque

Be warned though, at these figures the standard DMF & Clutch WILL NOT LAST LONG! I've got a Helix SMF & Clutch in mine which can easily cope with the torque and allows the engine to rev a lot more freely. Two down sides to this though... The Cost! £1000 fitted! And the Noise at Idle will put a lot of people off.
My standard clutch lasted 20k when the car was previously mapped to 295 lb's ft. But had been slipping for a while.
Fuel consumption averages around the low 50's.

Oh, and the standard Turbo is close to the limit at these figures. A hybrid is needed to go over the magic 200bhp.

MPG effected?
Yes, but only because with the map I drive un-sensibly on occasion.
When forcing myself to drive normally however, I notice very little difference between both maps. Both Indicated on computer and real calculated mpg.
To hazard a ballpark, ragging it, about 45mpg; day to day 55-60mpg and motorway cruising @70mph about 65-70mpg
