I was tought to jump down the gears, keep it in 5th then jump to 2nd.

However when i'm booting it, i heal and toe each down change. If i'm stuck in traffic then i set off in 2nd, then jump to 4th then up to 5th at about 25 mph.

That's the main reason I never liked my Corsa C TBH Fly by wire doesn't really play along

The way I was taught to drive was to go down through all the gears, with my foot on the brake, saving the brakes and saving fuel too. I've never over-revved an engine by putting it in the wrong gear from doing this.

I was told to change down through the gears when I drove a 'rarri 355. I sometimes do it in my car too, sound ace with the exhaust burbling away. I am also guilty of changing from 3rd to 5th whenever I get upto speed.

Yup, same here - taught to go through each gear during braking. Although i skip gears on the way up to get to 5th quicker if im in a 30 or so.

I always change through the gears, matching the engine revs as I do it. Its become habit I always fear if I dont il break something. Its the curse of the 106 gearbox

My mum on the other hand is funny, she slows for a junction, then goes to pull away and realises shes still in 4th or whatever then goes 'ooh dear' then changes down. Aaaaaall the time haha.

It's importantto always be in the correct gear especially when slowing down just incase the unexpected happens you will slow down much quicker and have more control over the car, more so when driving fast

the throttle is controlled by electric sensors rather than a mechanical throttle cable

That's it Monster, you press the pedal, sensors detect it, convert it to electrical impulses, sent down wires to a motor which controls the throttle butterfly.

Makes it easy for manufacturers to add cruise control, makes it less enjoyable to drive.

Just another thing to go wrong TBH.

Matt - I remember Clarkson saying in a common derv, when you engine brake it doesn't actually use any fuel
