I had 7 sessions, then a crash which fucked my confidence, then about 4 to the test. He said I was ready at week 5
You've got to keep it up though, can't just think "fuck it, i'll drive like I used to".

Yea, that sounds rather like my attitude. Mine were always on a Sunday mornings so i fail to make it most weeks as im busy or hungover.
Changed recently so its 1:1 tutoring at a convinient time for you and the tutor.

i did a driving course at silverstone. learnt about oversteer/understeer, Skid control etc etc. Good fun day and builds your confidence alot too They asked me to go back to do a Rally driving Scollarship for them but its was a bit too expensive and very far to travel.
would have loved to though.

I did a proper course in a cradled skidcar, one of those with little wheels on the corners,
You do all types of skids (except the pant based variety hopefully) then the instructor I had asked how I wanted the car set up for some fun; so had a 30 min oversteer drifiting session after the lesson. Loved it.

Ive just done the Audi driving experience at silverstone, people think its like one of those ferrari / lambo days where you just drive fast cars
but its actually a driving course that teaches you all about the cars, cornering, skid control, oversteer and understeer correction, braking etc...
Its a full day 8.30 till 4.30 and you are in the cars the whole day, you get put into pairs and each pair has their own car, the instructor also has thier own car, all the cars are fitted with radios so the instructor can talk to you and tell you what you are doing wrong, right etc..
We did:
Cornering at speed in the RS4 - basically going round the track, choosing the best lines, where to brake where to apply throttle etc...
Slalom driving in the new TT V6 - course set out in cones where you drive in and out, then into a chicane and then come back and have to park in a 'garage' without going over the lines, your timed and you do it with and without ESP
Oversteering correction in the S5 - approach a tight corner at speed (60mph+) then lock the steering wheel over making the car slide, the you have to correct it before crashing into the cones and going off onto the grass
Fast lane change in the RS4 - this one was fun! hammer the RS4 up to about 70/80mph to a certain point, then you have to change lanes very fast to avoid hitting the obstacle, this sends the car out of control with the ESP off and you end up doing a full spin at 70mph! its an incredible feeling. Then you do it with ESP on and the car remains fully in control, you can feel the different wheels individually braking when the ESP system kicks in which keeps the car in control.
Avoiding an obstacle under heavy braking in the S5 - boot it up to about 80mph then you have to slam on the brakes which kicks the abs in, and you have to swerve whilst braking to avoid hitting and obstacle, lots of tyre smoke! good fun!
Then at the end of the day we got to thrash the TT V6's around the circuit, playing chase the instructor! very fun and you really feel like a racing driver!
The instructors were fantastic, mostly ex rally/touring car drivers, bloke from Germany, bloke from Portugal and a lady from Belgium. They then showed us how its 'REALLY' done when they took groups of us out in the RS4s going sideways around every corner, was an experience to remember!!
Was a fantastic day, all food and drink was provided, very good food too! met some really nice people too. would recommend to absolutely anyone, i learnt so much about driving and how to improve my day to day driving.

Since I found this via some new voodoo
I finally recieved the info about it yesterday.
5 weeks of videos and presentations on a wednesday evening.
6 observed drives, if they think you are ready a senior observer gives you a sort of mock test, if he thinks you are ready you are put forward for the test.
£99 for 26 or over or £79 if under this.
£18 a year to IAM, £7 to your local group(or the one local to me anyway) per year thereafter.
