Buying a Diesel to do a 6 mile round trip seems a bit silly.

Ok maybe a Grand.........after looking on AT. 2001 GTi 1.8T is about £4k, 2001 1.9 GT tdi is about £5k.
So a grand cheaper to buy, then cheaper fuel, & not just a few pence any more petrols about 10p a litre cheaper now days in some garages.
Road tax will be a bit cheaper, 135 / 220?
But you'd still be cheaper with a Petrol, youd need to keep the car a long time to see any advantage doing that sort of mileage.
Im sticking about 35k on mine over 18 months then selling it, its done its job, went well & looked well to boot. But with the mileage I do its probably saved me a couple hundred quid......maybe

i know this sounds a bit silly but i want power but don't want it to be thirsty,i know it sounds stupid but i don't know what to go for if i go for another petrol car.
some of you may remember me talking about the 1.8 sri but some ppl say they are not even that quick & the tax is silly money.

No1 reason I like having a diesel just now is I can get away with filling the tank once a week, with a petrol car id be making 2 trips a week (im quite a lazy k'ent & cant be doing with that!) it would just put my whole week off balance.....its all about the ying & the yang

Im just trying to speak from experience.....been there with both petrol & diesel....covering both large miles & small. If I was doing 3 miles either way to work it would be a petrol hands down!!
You'll get 10-15mpg more from a diesel but it will hit you harder in the pocket to begin with. So your either a grand more upfront or a couple quid a week more in fuel.
Diesels are great but have their place imo.....................hense why all the 6yr old ones have 100k+ on them!

I bought one cause I have the Cardiff run to do every few weeks, and with my job and having no single place of work I could be 2 miles from home or 50 miles from home, Ive put 13k on it since october
I do alot of miles, I like the Torque and the 6 gears and that but in traffic it can get very thirsty
