Sounds like your on the right track then, I used to use Megs paint cleaner alot and did find it a good product to prep the base for SRP, although im not sure if that stage is really needed if you have clayed.
I would recommend spending your money on some 'German Applicators' and get a few decent quality microfibres like the Eurow Shagpile ones or Sonus towels and make sure you keep them really clean, that should make your life easier and would be a better buy than a buffer IMO.
