The amount a pc uses on startup in minimal, probably 4p worth, which if was on and running, would be the equivelent of 20mins.
Even at a silly scenario as when you turn it on its 20p, that'd still be an hour and 25 mins or so.
Therefore, if you arent going to use your pc for an hour and 26 minutes, it'd be cheaper and more economical to turn it off and back on again.
Thank you

My mum does this regular aswell. I just turn it off, saves the hassle

It's nowhere near 234 quid a year, i'm not sure if it's even 20.
A computer sitting on messenger all day and using the internet uses very little power.

i fucking hate people like that, who think the way to save the world is to turn everything off untill you need it - no retard that just uses MORE electricity and kills polar bears quicker, stop listening to every piece of drivvle the government comes out with
suppose the more eco warriors the country has the less chance that real issues will get noticed/dealt with
/rant
No it doesn't, unless it's turned off for about a second, that's another myth.

So then, how much does a PC use/cost per hour? if all the above is wrong.

I can't remember and i'm not getting my energy plug thing out, £20 a year rings a bell, I worked it out years ago when I was getting moaned at for having a server on 24/7 and that causing high electricoty bills.

Just got the genius of our office to work it out. He reckons a 350W max PSU runs at 5v and gives out 180.
He then blathered about KwH and (for a 30 day month) that equals 129.6, times thats by 15p (price per kw) and that equals £19.44 per month.

He's an idiot not a genius.
A PSU puts out various voltages at the same time, including 5 and 12 and has various rails for doing this, i've no idea what a kwH of electricity costs though.

If the tv told you 40, 20 probably isn't far away then, certainly nowhere near 200.
It's the same as putting your heating down saves 500 quid a year, if I turn it off and wear a jumper will the gas board owe me money instead?

Plus your 350 watt PSU isn't going to be using 350 watts all day every day. All computers these days have power management. WHen my monitor is shut down, CPU voltage is down, GPU is shut down and HDD's are shut down it probably uses about a watt to keep stuff in memory.

Even when it's running it uses nowhere near the 350 watts, that only comes into play when you're playing crysis while watching HD movies and burning dvd's, while copying hundreds of gigs of data between hard drives.

What are GHD's? I thought it was some sort of a disease until you mentioned fuses! ha ha ha
And yes, there is also the issue of her going through my room! I'm guessing she saw the router flashing downstairs, but that's not to say it MUST be my PC that's on, so yeah I guess she's gone in there - cheeky bitch
