OK, just got a reply from the guy with the purple one
Can have it on the Ronals for £800, or on BBS RM's for £1150

RM's are these:

Centre caps are missing & Im not sure there in the best condition ever
It's got tax & test but not loads. The Mk1 seems nicer but it's twice the price of it on Ronals...

After having a mk1, even though it was a fucking awesome car, everyone looked at it and people stopped you in the street to ask about it, not to mention the fact it was great to drive, it was fucking hard to live with.
Mk2s are a massive step forward, stronger, more bits are available (if you bend a mk1, you're pretty fucked for panels) they're more reliable, less stuff will go wrong and the gearchange won't be shit.
I loved my mk1 but I wouldn't have another one, not as a daily anyway.
Mk2 FTW. Small bumper GTi in Atlas Grey with some Borbet Cs for me please

Im still deciding about the colour, I've seen it on Mk3 VR6's before & it looks ace, but it doesn't look as good on this Mk2
The bumper has now been painted, so it's all sorted & no more flaking
The MK2 is definately better value for money, still not decided on what wheels would be best though. Doesn't help that he hasn't got any pics of it on them wheels

If it wasn't to be driven everyday, what would your opinion be? Because I might only use it once a week

If the RM's were silver I think that car would look amazing. I've asked him for the best price he can offer if I come through this week for it...
That MK1 is lovely, but it's a lot for what I need

Yeah, definitely, but the low spec models are slow and haven't got as good a chassis as the GTIs and if you were going for it, you REALLY need to get one which is solid, GTI or not.
The problem with pranging it still stands though.
The brakes on the mk2 are miles better too

TBH, unless you can be arsed constantly replacing little things every weekend to make the car drive slightly better, go for the mk2, with a mk1, you're always chasing a worn bush/part here or there and they're hard to get.
Mk2s are more solid (lardy), better built, better equipped and parts are easier to get, you'll get all the coolness of an old VW without the crap you get with an OLD VW.
