The reason it didn't get put to the top of the leaderboard for the Top Gear test track is because the rules state the car has to be useable everyday and "get over a speedhump" - The Caparo can not nor does it have instantly adjustable suspension!
I would guess that its cost either a) nothing or b) very little as Caparo will have supplied the car FOC as a show car deal; they may have even supplied the signwriting and the midimax lights from Premier Hazard are about £180 (I ordered some to fit to a new boat last week)
It's advertising at the end of the day; the value can't be measured in solely monetary terms

They did similar with a Lambo a while back - borrow it for the day and liveried up to 'show off' to the public.
To answer the original question re. where does the money come from, surely thats speed cameras
