If your spending £200 then dont get a full sus bike.
It really depends on the sort of riding you are going to do. If your just commuting then it should be fine. Take it to a trail and it will fall to pieces very quickly!

The point I was making is that a cheap full sus bike is crap, whereas I wouldnt mind riding a £150-£200 hardtail bike. Just making sure he doesnt buy the ones hes posted as they are horrible to ride, soooo bouncy.

As Doug said, depends what you use it for.
If your hitting black listed welsh trails you won't want a £100 bike

Don't know if it has been said, but to get a full suspension bike worth getting, you need to spend at least £800.
Often for the cheaper ones, replacement parts like bushes etc aren't available, so when they all wear out, the bike is rendered useless.
Also, you lose so much of your pedal stroke on those full suspensions, it's extremely hard work.
So yeah, a hardtail is best, what ever your budget really. Those full suspension bikes aren't tough enough to go offroad, so if your intended use is the road, a hardtail is more beneficial anyway.

If my 150 quid bike wore out i'd either go and buy another one or upgrade at that point.

Considering bushes for a decent full suspension bike cost about £10 each, it's abit of a bummer having to buy a new bike, with cheaper bikes.
Get a hardtail and you won't have that problem full stop

In 4 months i've ruined a bottom bracket, middle chain ring, rear deraillure, headset and forks are on their way out.

Should have bought a better bike to start with

Yeh but you ride yours on rough terrain, he only wants it for normal riding.
I remember I had a Mongoose Fuzz Utah BMX paid £350 for it and got ripped to shreds for it by the lads at the dirt trails by ours, but it never broke once, took a proper beating, with falls and bails etc the spokes, crank, pedals etc stayed tight and perfect. Loved it

You need to spend at least a grand imo, anything less is just going to fall apart at your first meeting with a curb.

If you only want to spend £100 on a bike then basically you are going to get a better bike if you stick to a simpler bike, either rigid or hard tail, the more fancy the bike looks with suspension etc then the cheaper the all round parts are going to be if it still only costs £100.
When I used to work in a bike shop it was so hard to get people to understand that. People saw full suspension bikes at low price and were set on that, then kicked up a fuss when they were bringing them back for repairs all the time. Also unless you are doing some serious offroading then a full suspension bike is going to make you even more tired cycling about than anything else.

Farking hell. My £200 bike has lasted me years without breaking. Maybe it's broke for that very reason?
'Hello sir, this bike appears to be too reliable, so I'd like my money back'.
