Issigonis designed it with a flat four in mind, BMC's accountants decided a sidevalve 918 was better then they put that crap 3 bearing thing in it.

I'm not really sure why, with all that space, he wanted an engine sat right at the bottom either

Slam it, take off the crome bits on the sides. get the roof chopped by an inch or 2, fit a rover V8 and strip the interior.

Thought it would have to be a Javelin, hence the question. Barmy eh? The Minor seems to have an equally high bonnet line if not higher. You'd think they'd have put something taller in or lowered the profile of the car for a flat 4. As it is, the normal in-line looks like a dwarf in a cathedral.
