so a standard gti would get beaten imo.
a 160 bhp gti would thrash one tho

i think a gti would beat a veyron to 100 but then the veyron would slowly pull away.

most standard gti's are 130 standard though arnt they, havent seen any rolling roaded below that, so surely if you can pass one with 147bhp, one with 130 bhp can stay level
CTR quarter mile are around 15 secs
Standard gti can do that.

Not read many of the reply's but my mate has a 54 plate CTR (Standard) and my Vts is completely stripped and has had quite a bit of work done to it, C2 GT head, polished ported and higher comp etc, 4 branch de-cat, powerflow exhaust, modified air box etc etc and we raced last night. I was pulling away very very slightly to about 120. We didn't go past that due to the runway (road:thumbs running out.
Hope this helps. Basically a standard Gti or Vts in my opinion wouldn't stand a chance in a straight line drag. It might on the twisties though....

Seen a standard gti Vs a standard type r, the type r won with easr. Yes the gti kept up... but only till about 60/70mph. But at the end of the day, who cares if it keeps up a little bit, the type r wins

Doesnt stand for much though. i beat a 2.2 z4 down at pod in feb in my 1.4 corsa!
As been said though, i think if you put the same compotent driver in both cars and timed them, i would put my money on the CTR, but as said, this side of 100 i dont think there would be that much in it!
Otherwise, taking into driver account, it could go either way!

when we was on the motorway yestuday my friend in his 106 gti and his mate in red top corsa where having some good even races's there was hardly anything in it, only thing was the corsa was 3 ppl up.. when i said they would be near enough equal they laughed.. top end though you could see the corsa was creeping away but guess thats to be expected with a bigger engine.. Im def lookin into 106 as next car after my sport.

Got to agree , 106 Gtis are fairly nippy but a standard one wouldnt even touch a civic type r imo , and yes i currently have a 106 Gti and have had a slightly tuned one and think that would struggle aswell , the tuned one would maybe give it a good race up to about 70 ish the the civic would pull easily i think , but again its all down to condition of car , driver , etc etc .

you geek
oh by the way, 106 gti has a good race against a civic type r until it gets to the high revs and then the 106 looses.
I used to own a 106 gti (pretty standard) and there is a lad at work who raced me a few times.
