I also IMO think custom exhausts from Fanchises such as longlife/powerflow\cobra all have a generic sound/drone which does nothing for me.

Cant beat the sound of a nice jetex/miltek or Magnex

Fad - the sound that you are talking about depends on what boxes/silencers and bore of pipework are used by the fitter, what car/engine plays a part also.

It wasnt a dig but an opinion I dont dislike dervs as such but just have formed an opinion of my own over custom exhausts over the years.

I do know the sound is dependent on the bends and the boxes but can anyone explain why a custom exhaust and decat on say a 1.6 16v sport never sounds as nice as a full system made by Magnex/Remus or Jetex? It may be down to personal preference. I think its down to the fact that the genric boxes the franchises use will be the same they put on say a Corsa/Punto/Clio for example. Where was a system made my Jetex will have different sized boxes for each application and IMO finished with more strict quality control.

Not saying all custom exhausts are bad but non franchise places such as BTB and Simpson or Hayward and Scott are renound for quality and the price difference between one of these systems and say a Blueflame or a Powerflow is strakly different? Food for thought there maybe?

we have all sizes of boxes fad, different sized boxes are used for different systems and cars etc, we can get special size boxes made to order too.

I think that's probably more due to the fact alot of people will want the loudest system they can get, which will use the smallest silencer. Also because it's on said Corsa/Punto/Clio, they all use a pretty similar engine (I-4), so they aren't going to sound wildly different anyway?
