I dont think they have put it up enough for 4x4 owners..... there is no rational reason why 99% of 4x4 owners need one of these vehicles.

If you can prove you need an off roader for where you live, or your job then you should pay reduced tax... if you are just using it to drive round town centres then you should get taxed through the arse

Dr pepper im guessing youve never owned a 4x4?

They are far more usefull and practical than estate cars, where i used to live next to a river we were flooded all the time, if my dad didnt own a range rover i would have missed work and so would my family. We wouldnt have been able to go to shops etc etc.

They are great if you have dogs, a garden and kids. Just becuase you dont go off road in one doesnt mean they arent practical vehicles.

Tis rationale of the country and its ridiculas anger vented at pointless demons like smoking, parking, cars in general and 4x4's is just plain stupid.

but tbh why the fuck not? Do we live in a free world?

I couldnt agree with you more that someone in a black pimped out 4x4 just wants one to look like a footballer or whatever, i think they look like a massive chump.

but that said, id be fucked if someone told me i couldnt hae the car i wanted. I think we need to stop this nanny state control shit and let people get on with it and be individuals.

noones stopping you, you just gotta pay more

it does even up the odds, pollutes more, does more damage to the road, causes more congestion etc so they should pay more

Imo they are mainly a danger to every one else on the road -- have a look at the statistics of accidents involving 4x4's - they are safer for you to put your kids in- but they are for more dangerous for other vehicles involved in crashes with them. They are also massive polluters and take up more road space-- I just do not see any reason for them for most people.

but why is it your descision?

Motorbikes are probably the most unsafe mode of transport, should they be banned too?

Pollotion means dick. Go to cairo, have a look around a deep breath and try and fnd a petrol station that sells unleaeded petrol.
The city of cairo is huge and probably pollutes 300,000 times as much co2 etc than a fuel efficient 2007 range rover.

I suggest you watch demolition man

Nobody is telling you what car you can have- we are just saying that if you want to drive a vehicle like this you should have to pay more tax for the priviledge - unless you can prove that you need it.

No- nobody is saying they should be banned- motorbikes are dangerous for the rider- not for everybody else on the roads like 4x4's

Thgis tax is aimed at wealthy people buying expensive cars - if you can pay £30-50k for a car you dont actually need then you can bloody well pay more to tax it.

What has world war 2 got to do with people buying a dangerous, polluting car as a status symbol?

Why should people have to justify buying a 4x4

I should be able to buy whatever car I want, what is your justification for having a fancy spec clio over a 1.2 ambiente?

The fact is that the price of owning a vehicle has dropped year on year for the last thirty years- wear as the price of using public transport has risen year on year-- this needs to be adressed....... I just hope this extra money is used to improve public transport, and the state of our roads, not to fund mps expenses.

I cant justify it- but I am perfectly happy to pay more tax for the priviledge. My justification would be that my car handle and drives nicer than a 1.2 -- I am more than happy to pay more tax --

Nobody is saying you cant drive what you want-- but you should have to pay more tax than somebody that chooses to buy a lower polluting car....thats reasonable isnt it?

I want a defender to go out and drive up mountains if I feel like it, why should I have to pay 400 quid to do that when you can go out and do double the speed it can 10x quicker, which is far more dangerous.
