They need your consent to test for drugs.
'Your employer may decide to test for drugs in employees. To do this, however, they need employee consent. This should normally be given where your employer has grounds for testing you under a full contractual occupational health and safety policy. The policy should be set out in your contract of employment or in the company handbook.'
So if they test for drugs and not told you that they are testing for them they can not sack you as they are not allow to.
Although they could make you do a drugs test afterwards which they could then use.

lol, I dont see why they need to test for weed to be honest, ok fair enough get the sack if your caught smoking it in work, but when people can get away with having heroin, speed etc.. 2 days before and passing a test and then someone has a joint a few days earlier and gets sacked just doesnt seem right.
Wonder if the Amsterdam excuse would work, as its technically legal to smoke it out there, but doubt the employer would listen.

yep definitely, I knew about it before I took my job, and it states in my contract that if suspected of substance abuse I can be asked to present a sample.

I can't see how the Amsterdam excuse would work.
Its legal to have sex with 12 year old girls in some countrys does not make it right though over here.
If you know you might be tested at your job then its just not worth it in my eyes, as its not going to look good on your record sacked for substance abuse.

Well, weed is illegal, hence if its in your system, you've smoked it in some way (or eaten it in a cake that you was not told had green in it until after as a practical joke by pot smoking friends? Hmmm thats a set of new lines   )
As employment starts, they can get rid of you for any reason within 6 months, so you haven't got any ground to stand on. Also, if a lot of you check your working contracts, any proper company will have covered it as its quite a large legal area (Drugs vs employment vs the law). I've got to go through my new contract tonight.
But tbh, Im not prepared to take the chance anyway, and its an opportunity (decision by myself) to stop smoking totally, become a normal member of the public again
Never had the stutters, but had short term mem loss when smoking, even mid sentance
I know the bad effects of weed before the anti drug takers start

I not anti drugs, just saying if I had a decent job (career path) and know it could effect it I would not risk it.
If they tested me they would find opium in my blood becuase of the medication I take everyday.
But I would be pissed off I got pulled up for it even though I am incocent of a crime, its just why should my boss know what medication I take.

That what I mean by the stutters mid way through a sentence you suddenly forget how to pronounce a word, and the short term memory is awful, you can be watching tv then an advert break comes up and you forget what you were just watching. You definitely notice the change when you have time off from smoking it, I can see how it effects some peoples mental state quite scary to think of the damages it can do

Why won't the passive smoking part work out of interest?
I cant remember the reason, but I had a urine test ( dip test) about 5 years ago and I was asking the lady medical examiner if being around people smoking it would affect the result. She came out with some crazy analargy of even if you were in a phone box with 8 people smoking it would not show up. I imagine that there would be a small trace if you were around people smoking it but not enough to show up during a test. A lot of companies uses the dip method which test for all the common drugs and alcohol, its only when it sent off for laboratory examination should you worry about the result if you have not had sufficient time off from smoking. I still smoke it occasionally but feel a lot better now that I dont do it everyday, I remember having bad short term memory and slurring words and stuttering a lot, had some good times though.

we hadf a letter from the compnay i work for saying we were having tests and they got a letter from a foreinsic scientist at scotland yeard to write a boput drougs test and he said and proved that it would not show up if you were in the same room as exhaled smoke is about 15% from what this letter said and that would equate to 0.02mil to a litre of o2

your right though. i dont smoke weed anymore (maybe just a couple of drags on a joint once in a while) but lots of my mates do and i swear i feel it sometimes when i'm in the room with them.

one of the lads handed me the vial this morning when i didnt know i had to do the urine test and my first comment was "how clean is your piss?".
he told me to fuck off. nowt like work mates to help you out in a situation!

One of my mates was due to go one his Uni placement & had been full on the drugs the weekend before, started freeking out when he remembered about the drugs test & phoned his brother asking him to piss in a jar for him & leave it under his bed for him. Apparently he then syphened the piss into a capri sun carton & sat through a whole days induction with his brothers piss taped to his chest.

my mate came round mine once n fetched some weed with her, i hadnt really smoked it b4, any way after we both smoked it she then told me she wanted me to drive her home, i told her where to go, there was no way i was riskin my life r my licence

We get alcohol/drug tests all the time at work. It's always random. Which is really annoying if I've only just had a piss and then they ask for a sample

I got one as part of a full medical for my new job last year, had to show the Dr my cock & all sorts
Also apparently we get random drink/drugs tests on the helideck before flying out to work. Good job ive nothing to worry about

5 people in one room, from what i remeber 4 smoked one didnt, they took into account volume if air in building, density and loads of other variables aswell
