I was just under 3 times the limit, and got 18 months, with the option of doing the alcohol rehab course thingy to reduce it to 14, with a £375 fine. I'm aware I'll probably be slated to death now, but no-one can say what I haven't heard

2 years......right i'll let him know.

Ive done it before aswell, stupid but then Ive no issues admitting that. Id bet 90% of the population have drunk drove at some point......some without even knowing......morning after etc.

I won't no. The judge has to state at the time that I would need to re-apply for my license, and he did not

Not on a UK license, but you can if you hold a license for another country.

Its likely to be quite harsh. Being cynical, it does improve the figures to have prosecuted successfully for such a high alcohol limit. Even if the circumstances are somewhat excusable. I'm not about to agree that all drunk drivers are scum and anyone who is caught instantly deserves to lose the licence for years and cost themselves many hundreds of pounds getting around and re-establishing their licence after the event.

Some people are genuinely just relocating a car and not actually as big a risk as someone speeding or tired. I think its punishable, and certainly not something I would do as I'm well aware of the repercussions of it, but the law does not differentiate between incidents of this type and the genuine disregard for the rules which 'proper' drink drivers show.

Ultimately, the law is not clever. It doesn't exercise discretion or sensibility and there are plenty of other things taking place on the road today which are far more dangerous than a bit of pissed parking.

3 times is a lot though in this case though. Perhaps I'm talking about a lesser offence than this one.

why cant you sleep it off in the back seat? and why do would you get done if you was drunk and had the keys on you in the car when its not started and you have no intention of driving it? you could be getting something from it or locking it up for the night to leave it where it is and get it the next mornin

I have had more mates than I can count on one hand banned for drink driving.

Minimum ban was 18 momths, and the longest 30 months reduced to 24 after rehabilitation.
Being 3 times over, he can probably expect atleast a 2yr ban with a fine.

A woman I used to work with did exactly that and got banned, she went out to town with some mates planning on not drinking then driving home, changed her mind, had a few drinks, went back to her car to get a coat for the walk home, police spotted her, breathalised, banned

if you have the keys on you you get done for being drunk in charge of a vehicle as opposed to driving while over the legal limit
