They're not, never have been and never will be solely a Vauxhall tuner.

The Golf was built by them for someone they know to race in the VW cup, to replace the Beetle they built before, I heard it's now being replaced by a Porsche 997 GT3 to race in the Porsche Trophy.

Do they actually physicly add anyhting to the car with this EDS sofware? or do they plug the car into a computer and change things around? Im not being an arse, i've just never looked into re-maps on cars and stuff but its something i will more than likely be doing on my VX220 with the same engine.

How much does a live map cost, so its setup for a specific vehicle?

spec for stage 2 is precat replacement pipe, front mount intercooler and at least a cat back exhaust, i've got a full turbo back on mine though including sports cat.

if your mate allready has a vxr turbo then with a precat, exhaust and intercooler he'd be looking at 270bhp with a remap and about 300 ftlb of torque. add vxr injectors and air flow then somewhere around that magical 300bhp mark

Should hit over 300 with that spec Rob

Most ive seen is 317bhp on mine, but apparently the vxr wont do over 300bhp!! hmmm

The way these work is :-
EDS germany do the maps
EDS Email the files to Regal
Regal uploads the files to your ECU
Job Done

Regal do not know what really go's into the maps or what they change. Arno is the man who writes alot of the maps an comes over every now and again to regal so thats the best time to get your car done.
Alot of the lads fro Z20LET Owners drove over the EDS to have there maps done.

I have done a lot of work on Generic maps recently, What I have found is that generic maps (i.e a map that is not written for that precise car but more of a 1 size fits all option) are often written to be a very safe map.

the fuelling is often rather close to optimum, but its the ignition timing where 90% of the extra power comes from. The closer you run your ignition timing to its optimum figure, (measured in degrees before top dead cente) the more power you make. but at the same time if you go past this optimum figure then you run into detonation or 'engine knock' which will kill an engine in seconds.

so to avoid this problem a generic map runs a very safe level of ignition advance, and hence, will make less power than a custom live map or aftermarket ecu would make.

Also, even a generic map once uploaded should also be checked over on the dyno or during a test drive to check for Det or engine knock using a det detection device. This is why most people dont want their cars remap done in a carpark at their work or outside their house on a sundat afternoon by some bloke with a laptop.

the only time it is safe to load up a generic map without using det detection devices is on a diesel as they dont rely on ignition timing.
