By the looks of things, he's been done. That's a legal decision made in court which I'm sure you need to pay so as not to be in even worse trouble.
Personally I would seek legal advice on how to counter-sue for your costs but I would imagine they will advise you to pay the fine or in the very least write and explain your reasons for not doing so with written evidence to support your account.
You need to bear in mind at all stages of the process that you are dealing with incompetent fools who are chasing figures and that had your car been registered at a non-existent address you could have just laughed off the conversation and ripped up the producer on the night.
Nobody in this life will shake your hand for being decent and law-abiding.

the courts have admitted that he won't be getting done, this is just a bad example of inefficient admin and communication.
as for sue'ing, this isn't america, we don't sue at every opportunity here, should he have had to put up with this, no, he's been on the unfortunate end a job gone bad.

Yeah but this has been decided - I'm quite sure you can't overturn a decision that easily.
Even if the most fantastic piece of evidence came to light in any other case you would need an appeal or re-trial, not an inadmissible letter of complaint.

speak to a solicitor. A legal decison has been made at somepoint. If you ignore it, it may mount up.

Steve is right, basically it will have been an admin error.
I work for the courts and the amount of cases that go through for No Insurance & the like is plain stupid. 100's everyday in Leeds, so if your Court covers a big area like Leeds, its possible the paperwork has just not been pulled out before the hearing.
You need to write to the court to get the case re-opened, explain you have a letter saying the hearing was cancelled, and you thought everything was sorted out. You will probs have to attend a re-opening hearing to produce this evidence (sometimes they can do it when you aint there though) Once this has been done, all the fine and points etc will be wiped off.
As for compensation, i've never know anyone be awared any from West Yorkshire Courts. You can make a complaint but will probs be fobbed off with excuses as to why it happend.
EDIT - Dont ignor it. Courts are clamping down big time on non payment of fines. There are a lot of new powers available now as well which means that your car can be clamped or removed until its sorted. Also, as you've got a car the first step would be to pass the debt onto the Bailiffs, & if this happens i'd expect the amount to increase 10 fold

When did i say i was going to ignore it???!
I will be speaking to my solicitor, and attending no hearings to prove my innocence as i did what was required of me BY LAW at the time. This is not my fault.

I never said you were going to ignor it, just some people in the thread sugested it, I was mearly pointing out that you shouldn't do that.
You go speak to a solicitor if you like mate, but he'll only tell you to do what i've just said.
Once a decision is made in court, the only way it can be overturned is by making a Statutory Declaration (which you cant do as you received a summons) or by re-trail. In which case, you need to attend court to produce the evidence you have to say you were insured/didn't need to attend.
Its not you fault no, I agree, its shit, I deal with people like this everyday & they all have to same view point as yourself, but at the end of the day, if its the law, its the law, and no amount of kicking off or calling solicitors is going to change that.
The only thing you can do is ask for the re-trail to be done in your absence, say you cant get to court due to work or whatever, although it is very rare that this happens.

Im fucking livid fad.
I cant sit down, i cant concentrate or think about anything else.
Im worried they are going to take my car
Ive done nothing wrong
TBH i dont think im gunna bother paying insurance anymore, it would only cost me £400 and i wouldnt have to shop around. Seems pointless paying it as even if you do they still dont beleive you

Man it makes me sick just reading this
Two bit police force along with retards in admin makes a great justice system.
Should of got their badge numbers and written a formal complaint to the local station. I had to do this due to constatnt harassment once.

I might have a copy of his badge number somewhere, but tbh other than being rude, accusatry etc im sure it wasnt him who did it wrong. More like the half wit on duty who took my documents but never sent them off or whatever they do with it.
Shocking to say the least.

This is really crap, only just read it.
What particular beauty spot was it ? Are there any camera's there ? Being only half a year ago, they may still have footage etc and everything would get thrown out instantly.
The fact that the payment date is before the letter was sent makes it even more laughable.
Hope this all gets sorted...

I would write a formal letter of complaint and CC it to your local MP mate. May also be worth contacting the local paper, shame the police force for being a bunch of muppets?
